Hi,

Have read something about your eyes going funny during labour and not being able to wear contacts?

Anyone know if this really is the case?

I hate the thought of not wearing mine - wont be able to see baby when he/she comes out!

I wore contacts through labour but had read somewhere that it wasn't advisable in case you had to have a general anaesthetic for a c-section. My mwsaid that it was pretty rare and said to do whatever I felt comfortablte with

As long as your contacts arent bothering you it should be ok. Just be extra careful if you are taking them out that you still wash your hands carefully and store them in proper contact lens solution...no hospital saline! If your labour is long you may not want them in but everyone is individual....just remember to take them out when you finally get to sleep...last thing you'd want is to wake up next morning with an eye infection.

i wore mine all through the labour and also through the c-section
as long as they remain comfortable then it shouldn't be a problem. i'd still pack a contacts case and your glasses just in case.

I know a lot of women (me included) find it hard wearing contacts during pregnancy as your eyes tend to dry out more and they get a bit uncomfortable but i havent heard anything about not wearing them during labour and wore my no probs

I found it very uncomfortable to wear contacts during pregnancy, which was made worse when I broke my glasses and had 2 wear them for 2 weeks. eeekk!!!

I wore my glasses for the first part of labour as I didn't know how long it would take and if I wear my contacts for too long they get uncomfortable. Last thing I wanted was to be trying to take them out in between contractions! Once I felt the contractions getting closer I put my contacts in. Worked well, no-one ever told me they would be a problem.
