Topic: Tummy Touching Posted: 07 May 2007 at 5:28pm |
Does anyone else feel weird about other people just coming up and touching your tummy without asking? Or even if they do ask...?
MIL came over the other day (we are not that close) and she say's "how's my baby?" (GRRR it's MY baby not hers) and then she comes straight over and puts her hands all over my tummy.
I felt very weird!

I am constantly surprised at the number of people who ask that question "How's my/our baby?" Tis definitely my baby and not anyone elses!
Tummy touching bothers me too - especially because there is not really anything there to see/feel. My MIL is the same, and DH says that she is just excited and wants to be a part of the whole experience. My mum says she wouldn't touch my tummy without asking anyway - and especially wouldn't touch someone elses!

I wouldn't mind my mum (and hubby of course) touching my tummy coz we are very close but anyone else is just invading my personal space.

I hate it and let it be known!
The only people who have touched my tummy are DH the midwife and the sonographer!

Yeah MIL always did that to me too, both pregnancies and it really annoyed me! What annoyed me more though was strangers who would do it, grrrrrrr!

i work with a very touchy feely kind of lady, she has only been working with us for around 3 weeks, and its like she thinks theres a gene in my belly and she has to rub it to get her 3 wishes, i really got sick of it last week and said to her infront of a waiting room full of people that id appreciate it if she would keep her hands off as it makes me feel uncomfortable and its quite rude.
then there was silence
she hasnt spoken to me since.
one thing that has really anoyed me tho is my hubbys neice, who is 2yrs younger than me and was a good friend constantly asking my if im getting really big and " so bet youve really packed it on latley" comments
as shes always been quite competitive with me.
ive found that a simple " no not really i still dont think i weigh what you do" usually keeps her quiet for another few weeks. ( even though its nasty)

Catrad my sister is pretty rude with weighty comments too - and I only ever got to her weight at full-term with baby #3. I put it down to her insecurity and try to shake it off without biting. It's frustrating, but I'm sure not gonna let her comments get to me when she's the chubbier of us two.

I am sooo different to most people on this - I LOVE people touching my belly - I prety much chase them round saying touch my belly, feel how hard it is!
Most people just touch it lightly and i say - no - give it a good poke like this, lol!
I am going to miss my belly when it isn't tight with bubs and just floppy stretched out leftovers

I hate people touching me!! im not a very touchy feely person anyway and am only ok with DH and DS touching my tummy (and of course the MW and sonographer even though i still feel uncomfortable with those 2!) but then im not just like that because im pregnant - im not a cuddly person anyway.

with caitlyn i didnt show till about 7 months, so i was really proud of my pathetically small belly when i got one-and it was so cute i must say, like a round basketball, except it moved , so i didnt mind my friends or her dad or my family touching it, and they were all very good about asking anyway.
I wasnt so keen when complete strangers asked if they could touch it , like "hello....you obviously MUST know me, as your being so familiar, but have we met before? no? then please allow me to rub your stomach as well in way of greeting "

I'm not a tummy touching fan either. I mean, would you do it if there wasn't a baby in there? I got a lot of it with the gremlins, people are fascinated by twins, which made my skin crawl, altho at term my skin was so stretched that you could feel the vertebrae in Mercedes spine down the side of my belly button and I did offer to let a couple of people feel that coz it was so weird - it grossed them out tho!

I was constantly at my DH to 'hold the baby' in my belly, and when he was home I seemed to want him to feel every wriggle and kick! But we're like that - touchy-feely (though not with anyone else). I hated it when my mum would grab my belly and not let go - she'd hold on loooong past when it began to feel weird! And hated it when my sister would come fresh from a vet class, touch my belly and start describing what it was that she could feel (uh - hello, that's a PLACENTA, even the midwife couldn't feel Ella's details then!). And as for strangers - I think that the constant F-off look I gave anyone looking like they might go near my belly put them off! I was fully willing to rub their bellys back if need be. Anyway Helen, it's totally up to you and if you're not comfortable with it, you're not being a cow for telling them to move their hand - it's your body after all!

My MIL did it to me the other day, and I smacked her hand away and glared at her, I think she got the message, her touching me made my skin crawl.. I've only just started to let hubbie touch my tummy.
