Topic: storage for kids rooms? Posted: 18 May 2007 at 5:47pm |
has anybody got any good ideas for cool storage ideas for kids rooms.
at the mo i have a toy box in gabriels room but it is broken and the door wont shut and it is on an angle since the wheels came off (and its been repaired once already). and it seems that all the toys just get thrown in there and when they want something they get thrown out again, and there they stay.
oh and i like inexpensive and colourful and compartmentalised. (think thats a work...looks to long?)

I just have those cheap cube bins from the warehouse which are stacked on top of each other. I had grand plans of building a shelving unit for them to go in, but that never happened.
My next project is to organise all Han's drawing/painting stuff into closed containers. Fellow creche mummy had the best cubby uni/container combo ever. All the cubbys fit about 3 containers stacked on top of each other and they were all filled with nicely organised things... and if one was out, the other had to go back. Wish I (or Hannah) was that tidy!!

We have one of the three drawer multicolored ones in the lounge for Maya's pens/paper/coloring books etc. and she has two sets of pink sparkly plastic drawers (also from the Ware Whare) to tidy up her toys - barbies in one, little people in one, puzzles in one etc.

I got sick of all Hans toys strewn around her room, so now I have a few of the warehouse plastic boxes with lids, and have seperated stuff out (jigsaws, blocks, toys, art...) except for the bigger toys which just sit around, and now she is learning that she has to put things away before she can get something else out. I like the idea of the coloured plastic drawers as well.

At the Warehouse I've seen a neat piece of storage equipment for kids rooms.
A set of plastic cubes/boxes arranged as a bookshelf - 3 teared (sp?) with 3 cubes on each row. Nice bright colours & easy to get at etc (the cubes have no lid & are set on the self slightly tilted; so your able to see what is in them)
Will look at getting something similar for my boys rooms. Priced at around the $50ish mark, i think.

Hey gandt, this isn't really cheap, but it's cool -- in this weekend's Briscoe's flyer, they have a 4-drawer unit that's shaped like a cube (2 on top, 2 on bottom) and each "hole" has a bin in it -- blue, hot pink, orange, and green -- and each bin has a chalkboard on the front of it, presumably so you can write what's in the bin (or draw on it!). It's $89.99, down from $149.99. I'm tempted to buy it and hide it in the garage so DH won't find it -- we have so little room in this place, but it's just so cool!!!

storage bins and bookshelves!! we have lots of the 60 litre plastic ones and then paris has a bookshelf you get from warehouse stationery with 9 different compartments.. we got it for $99.. works well, was expensive really but once she's a big girl she can ditchthe toys and stick all her big girly teenager stuff fon there lol.!
We put her little sets of stuff into lidded containers that stack on the shelves..little containers were $7 each.. we got them one a fortnight, and the cubes fit into the bottom for her larger sets like barbies and her teaset/cooking set. If ayja had room in her bedroom i'd do the same there, but have just got a bookshelf in her room, and then a set of those sparkly drawers that can fit lots of different things.. ie one for dollys one for miscellaneous, one for blocks.. then can just get the drawer out and bring into lounge to play and clean up afterwards.
We also have a 4 drawer set for art stuff and that works well too, the bottom drawer has the crayons felts pens etc, the next has the paper colouring books sticker books coloured paper the next has the playdough and the top has the paints and stamps and messy stuff.. the top drawer is an "only with mum or dad" drawer, they know they don't go into it without us, the playdough is an "ask mum and dad drawer" and the other two they can go into anytime provided they take it to their tables to use. I am starting to think you guys will think i'm really ocd-mum.

Oh, are they? I think you're saving me a trip to Briscoe's tomorrow, as I have been sitting here looking at the ad and getting more and more keen on them! But I don't want 'em if they're small. Small is useless! LOL What was the bigger one like?

seriously - warehouse stationery - they have a smaller version of the bookshelf like paris's with only 2 shevles high with 3 across then just get the little palstic crates from the warehouse to slide into them.

The Warehouse have got the storage drawers (like the turquoise ones in Janine's pic) on sale this week. We've got two sets of the pink ones, they also come in turquoise, purple and a red/yellow/green/blue combo.

Katherine etc the ones you are talking about are also sold at the plastics centre - we saw them at sylvia park yest - you buy a cube then buy a fabric bag for inside - that pulls out like a drawer...they were VERY cool....i think it was payless plastics or similar - not too pricey and very colourful and funky to mix and match...perfect storage!
