Topic: Appropriate 1st Bday pressie?!?!?!? Posted: 21 May 2007 at 9:55am |
I need help! (apart from generally speaking! )
I have no idea what to get Caitlin for her first birthday!
We were going to get her a little table and chairs set, but I don't think she will be able to use that yet (other than to pull herself up on), then we were going to get her a ride in car-type toy, but again I think it might be a bit too soon for that stuff. Probably best to wait until Christmas when she's 18mths.
I want to get her an age appropriate toy (preferably something educational that she won’t outgrow in a week) and then something to keep. She already has an engraved bracelet (that she knows how to take off! Meh!)
Any suggestions would be appreciated

the ride on may be alright - she will prob use it as a walking tool first tho. toby turned one at the same time and we waited till xmas for the ride on too tho. for toby we got a peek a blocks giraffe but gabriel played with it more. for gabriels first birthday we got him a wheels on the bus toy and that is a fave now still. Little people seem very popular as first birthday gifts too.

Something I bought McKayla that I thought she might still be to small for but from the moment she saw it, it became her favourite toy.
A baby doll. Not too big. More the smallish size and a pram for the doll. Everything else was forgotten and she didnt wanted to open any other presents.

Our first bday tradition is to buy a special (bedtime etc) doll. Another idea for a 12mo would be a walking trolley, things for filling/emptying, and stacking.

We bought Ella a little wooden trolley (you know, the kind that you have blocks in, and they use it when they first start walking). I got it new off trademe, someone makes them. We used to have to put something heavy in it when she first used it though.. but it's something she will be able to use now

Oh my gosh this is something we are stuck with at the mo! I have no idea for Tyrell.
Toni, Tyrell has a bike that was given to him and he just loves it, as well as his wooden trolley.

We got Ella a ride on bike for her first birthday too. She still uses it now and she'll be 3 next month! Benjy's using it to walk around with now as well.

I bought ours at Farmers. Really cheap. I bought her pram for like $7 and the doll was about $9. It was the cheaper part of her gifts and gave her the most joy of all the stuff. I think it is the lily range that we bought. Bought her the bed shortly afterwards as she kept on smacking the child into the pram so it can lie down to sleep.
(Now I really solemnly swear I never smacked this child into bed so she goes to sleep.

I can't rave enough about how useful a table and chairs is. My friend's babe who has just started to walk was very into it the other day - she's 15 months I think.
Anyway, I guess my point is, something small and age appropriate... and then something larger that she can use for years...?
I just love my... I mean, Hannah's... little table and chairs... can ya tell?

Maya got a ride-on thingie for her first Xmas, cost me $30 and is still in the shed for when the gremlins are big enough for it, definitely value for money!
For her first birthday Willie and I went halves in a greenstone for her. We weren't together at the time and I wanted something special from both of us to symbolise the fact that we were still both her parents even if we were apart. It was pricey ($300 odd) but she'll have it forever, and we'll do the same for the gremlins (better start saving now
I also get her a charm every year to go on the gold bracelet she was given when she was born, I try to get something to symbolise that particular year ie. 1st birthday was a bottle, second was a shoe, third was a crayon, fourth was a letter M

We do the charm bracelet thing as well. Each year a different charm. Still dont know what charm I am getting this year. Last year was a white gold teddy bear.
McKayla loves her ride on as well. Her gran got it for her for Christmas (so one year 3 weeks old) Same one as in the pic just the winnie pooh one. Really stable and was like $20 or something.

We got my DD a wooden glory box for her 1st bday. I use it to store special things in that she likes to put out evey now and then. I have stuff like her first little shoes, the outfit she came home from the hospital in, the newspaper that has her birth notice in, scan pics etc.
It was fairly expensive, but we thought it would be nice to get something special for her 1st bday.
I think the trollys and table n chair sets are a cool pressie too. They will get heaps of use out of them for the first 5 or so years.
