Ok, so I have probally put this in the wrong place. But 30 mins ago, I was told I am being made redundant. Work knew I was pregnant, so it looks like I wont get maternity leave or anything. What a sh*tty day. I am so stressed but trying to be good, dont wanna freak out bubba to be.

Oh, bollocks! That's bad news!! How crappy of them! All they had to do was hang on a few months, and you'd have left anyway!

Oh dear.

It was verbal. They want to give me 9 weeks max I think, because they feel bad. I'm so upset, this sucks. Since I was 14 I've always had a job, and never really taken holidays and just being paid out for them. I wonder what my options are financially. When I found out I couldn't breathe.

Wow what I shock for you! I hope it all works out well for ya. Don't worry about maternity pay, you will probably be eligible for the Parental Tax Credit ($1,200) from the IRD when the time comes. (We were x2)

Thanks guys your awesome. I am just panicky because my partner isnt a NZ citizen or resident, hes here on a working holiday visa (we were gonna apply for residency for him next year) and I just dont know what I am entitled to.

I doubt I will get a good pay out, considering the company isnt doing so well. I believe they are making someone else redundant too and they made two others redundant in the past year. Its only a small company, I think there will be 11 people left after I am gone.

I have been working with them since October 2005.

You should get at lleast 3 weeks pay, plus any holiday pay owed.. plus a gesture of goodwill....

Go and speak to HR or payroll officer.. or ask to see your contract (if you signed one) it will have it in there..

There are a few avenues that you can take. Take a look at the Employment Relations website here

But in the first instance, I would still keep an open line of discussion with your empolyer...

Thats awful. My hubby was in similar situation not so long ago (and they didn't even give him any notice - just showed him the door - we're still going through the lawyers about this). First thing you should do is get hold of WINZ and see what you're entitled to - they are pretty helpful with things like that. And then make sure you apply for all the working for families stuff, cos you'll definitely get something there. And try not to stress!! Easier said than done, but its not good for you or bubs. Big hugs

I went out, got some nasty BK and I am sulking. Haha, at least I've stopped sobbing. Will try not to stress.

Thanks everyone.

Oh Tara, that's awful!

I'm not trying to compare stories here but DD's dad was made redundant the day after she was born It was stressful, wondering what the future held but in the end it all worked out.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, take care of yourself & your wee bub by not worrying/stressing to much about it. You have time to look into all the avenues like Bee said.

All the best & try not to worry (I know easier said than done, huh?!)

So Sorry to hear that...its really bad timing!

Hang in there, once you get over the shock things will seem clearer. Make sure that you check your contract (hopefully you have one) to understand your entitlements, it should state clearly what you are entitled to.
