Topic: Internet & phone providers Posted: 28 May 2007 at 8:43am |
After our dramas with Slingshot we have been released from our contract and are now looking for a new service provider for our internet and phone (would prefer to have the 2 together).
I don't want to go back to Telecom either!
We've had a look at ihug but are there any others?

Orcon??? Heard they are good and they have excellent broadband plans (5gb for $50, then $10 per gb after that...)
We are with Telecom tho and finding it pretty good.

We are with orcon and I can't say enough good things about them. They also do the full package but can't in some area's due to telecom.

We're with Telecom/Xtra. I must say I am pretty impressed with them lately, our lines have been out twice in the past few months ( stupid Fulton Hogan contractors outside doing road work) and both times Telecom have gone out of their way to compensate even tho the problems weren't their fault.

We were with Telecom, but recently changed to Telstra Clear. Initially, had a few problems with Telstra, but once they were cleared up (and we were given a month's free line rental - LOVE that!) things are pretty good now. Saving heaps and have more internet capacity per month!!

We have broadband with Orcon, also our tolls are with them cause that saves us $10/month and we hardly do tolls anyway. The rest is with Telecom.
Otherwise Clear would be the only other option for a combo I guess.

Have a look at my rant under product reviews. I couldn't believe how long the issue went on for with Slingshot and when I told them they could release me from my contract (due to expire in Sept) they said "sure, at the end of your billing period" to which I replied "what billing period? I'm not paying for this month, I've not recieved anything to pay for!". Mr Slingshot person then credited us for this month too, blardy cheek!
I think I'll sign up with ihug. Their plans suit our needs and our budget

Nooooooo! Don't go Islug, you may regret that as much as being with slingsh*t!!
DH and I are high bandwith users and I'm an IT geek so am pretty particular about ISP's.. We're with Worldnet as they provide the best price for the amount of bandwidth we go through every month (Obviously I don't know how much you guys use so have no idea if it works out cheaper for you too?). Anyway - it's another option if you're looking outside of the companies that people usually complain about

Yeah Orcon is pretty good too and we'd probably be with them if we weren't with Worldnet.

We have broadband and phone line with Telstra Clear. Have recently been researching other options but for our needs (minimal toll calls, fast broadband, around 2G a month) Telstra worked out most economical.

I'm with telstra clear, PDQ broadband and home line and tolls works for me too, and also if you have vodaphone you can add this to your account and they do tv/sky deals as well worth looking at

We recently switched from Telecom to Telstra for more bandwidth for same price and on cable which is meant to be faster... not sure if it is or not in reality tho Could also be my ancient computer.
Anyway, happy with Telstra.

We're with Ihug and they are fantastic. My DP is an IT specialist and he thinks they are the best on the market.

I remember at my last flat we signed up for dial up originally with iHug, and when it came time to move we wanted broadband. They were rude and said to me that Telecom could do it heaps quicker.
So, I closed the ihug account and switched to Telecom. Big mistake. It took 3 months to get internet, house wired for second line (guy living in outside room had his phone wired through our place), 8 technician visits and about 35 calls to Telecom.
Its finally been sorted and I got sick of disputing the bill that I just bloody paid it. When we move again this year for bubba, I will not be going iHug or Telecom.
