Topic: Hairdressers Posted: 11 July 2007 at 9:31am |
I need a haircut. I've been putting it off for ages because I didn't want to spend the money, but ye olde ginger mop is starting to look a bit (ok, a lot) bird-nesty.
The thing is that I am terrified of hairdressers because 99% of the time, they make a terrible mess of my hair. I found the best hairdresser in the history of the world at Toni & Guy, but the selfish tart went on maternity leave 6 months ago and never came back! The others still cut hair well there, but not well enough for me to happily hand over $100 just for a cut. You know? Plus, they're in Newmarket, so it's a bit of a hike too and you have to add parking costs in as well.
Sooo - does anyone know a good hairdresser? I'm based in Manurewa, so Botany, Onehunga, elsewhere South ...
HELP!

i saw something on tv the other week that said you need to show the hairdresser what you want...not say oh an inch will do...cause your inch and theirs are diff.
Bombshell gave me the name of her hairdresser, she recommended him quite highly for colours too - not that you would want to mess with that fab colour... Do you want me to PM you the details? its in manukau.

The only hairdresser I can recommend now would still be a drive for you Ginger, at Servilles in Takapuna - and plenty of free parking nearby too ! And only $75 for a cut rather than $100 (and she does a brilliant job).

My mums a hairdresser - works from home! But she generally only does shampoos and sets for little old ladies Oh and the odd purple rinse! So unless that is what you are after, probably wouldn't recommend her

Yep I know. $100 is a lot of money. I used to get a cut at that price about every 3 months or so, so it sort of worked out - the cut would hold really well. But, now, I just can't spend that sort of money any more!

I get mine done at NVision in New Lynn, it costs me $120 for a cut and color which is waaaay less than I used to pay pre-gremlins when I got a half head of foils as well.
Ginger, I want to know what the mystery $50 hair product is coz if it can tame the Ginger 'fro it might work on the Maya Super 'Fro!

It's $30 Emma and it's brilliant. It tames my curls PM me your address - I have a nearly empty one which has a good few squirts left in it. You can try it before you buy it It's a Wella product called 'Hyper-curl'. You also don't need a whole squirt - I only partly depress the squirter and use about half as much in my hair, and it lasts months with me using it every day in my mop.

Hey Ginger,
My sister in law (to be) owns a salon at Highland Park, she's very good.
It's called Wentworth Hairdressing and the number is: 534 1500 and her name is also Mel.
I'm not sure of her charges as we get freebies

I go to Mod'd Hair in Ponsonby and love it! They really listen to what you want and came up with a great hairstyle for me to cater for having a 5 month old in the house - I can wear my hair both down and up with minimal effort. They are not cheap though, but then is $100 really too much for Auckland??
ETA - if you are keen, PM me as I have a voucher for 15% off your first visit that I can send you for free

OMG $100 I wouldve felt embarrassed to ahve charged that when I was hairdressing.
$120 for cut and colour is good price Emma.
Hope you find someone up there for a reasonable price.

I go to Servilles in Takapuna. It costs me a wee bit, but I go for more than just the haircut...it's the almost two hours out of the house without the kids or husband, the nice leather chairs in the well lit, spacious, relatively quiet salon where a grown up, not just out of hairdressing college (and falling out of her top) talks to me about things going on in the world while I sip on a really, really well made mocha and watch all of the other escapees having their hair done. I get it done two or three times a year and tried to get it cut somewhere else and didn't get the same happy buzz. I'm honestly happy for WEEKS afterwards.....just ask Jax.....

I know exactly what you mean meow! I've completely given up - I brow dry out the front fringey bit, and that's it. The rest can pretty much do what it damn well likes (within reason - I object to standing on end, which is what it chooses to do most often).
Plus, they forget that they're professionals, and we're sooo not!

Maree - let's not forget the head massage... !! But you are 110% right, it is worth going there for so much more than "just" a haircut, they make THE best mocha I have ever tasted. Ever !
And I only get it done about 2-3 times a year myself.
