Topic: Shes just not right Posted: 20 July 2007 at 7:15pm |
My poor wee Sienna just isn't herself, She's had a nasty cough for three weeks now and while it's not getting any worse, it's not getting any better either. Last week she had a high temp then two days later broke out in a viral rash, today she threw up all over the place, enough to soak thru three layers of clothes. And she's grouchy and waking during the night and screaming for one hour + so I am exhausted.
She's seen the GP once, the after hours doc twice, had a catheter urine done at Starship to rule out the kidney being an issue and had the ambulance out once to check her breathing.
As I said, she's not getting any worse, and she's certainly not drastically ill enough to warrant another trip to the after hours doc but I have this niggling feeling that there's something not right and it's making me uneasy.
I don't *think* I'm being overanxious, as Willie and Kellz both agreed that she isn't 100% but the question is what do I do?
ETA: I also have this nagging worry that both of the gremlins aren't gaining weight like they should be, they seem to have thinned down a lot and gotten longer, they're still only eating the equivalent of 1/2 can each at most meals and their formula intake barely hits 450ml a day

Yeah Sienna did seem a lot quieter today....can you get a second opinion from the doctor, or see a different doctor?

I say take Sienna to the Drs and get her checked out again. Maybe talk to plunket about your concerns eregarding weight gain etc or the Drs.
Emma Hope Sienna gets back to her normal self soon.

Well, you're her mum and no-one knows your girls like you do, so if something doesn't feel right then you shouldn't feel bad for wanting to be sure.

Emma, never ignore the niggly feeling! I am one hundred percent supportive of 'the feeling' that tells you that things aren't right. Hope poor Sienna is feeling better soon...
PS re the weight, gremlins must be due a plunket visit soon, surely they could tell you?

They saw Plunket at 8 mths, I have to double check but I think their next visit isn't till 10 mths. I do know we get extra ones with them being twins.
I think I'll take her to the GP on Monday and just get her checked over again, and they have a baby scales there so can weigh them both too. It's hard to explain, just my Mummy instinct I guess, but somethings not right.

Definitely get her checked again on Monday and if you really don't think she is good over the weekend you can always go back to the after hours place again.
Hope she feels better soon.
Poor wee Sienna and poor Mummy.

at our plunket you can go and weigh your baby any time. Will give you an idea whether they have put on weigh or not.
BTW - I did think from the photos of your latest trip that the gremlins had lost some of their baby chubbyness... just didn't say it incase it sounded rude...
Trust yourself, as their mother you know best. Also I am a great believer in trusting your gut instinct.. go with it.

Hi Emma I was going to suggest Monday too, looks like you're a step ahead of me! As for the weight, it is supposed to drop off a little bit around their age, especially if they are starting to move around. Get them measured and weighed and check whether they are holding proportion on their charts.

Like everyone else has said - trust that little voice. I think we women have that voice for a special reason.
Hope that Sienna comes right though and that you get some answers or at least some peace of mind soon.

Ugh, let it be said I saw this one coming! She has a tummy bug, a nasty one. 6 dirty nappies today, all completely liquid and her poor wee but is absolutely red raw. My big worry now is that she's not taking any formula, and won't drink the water or the pedialyte, so have my fingers crossed I can get some into her overnight so she doesn't get dehydrated. Hard to know if it is the same virus she's had lingering for weeks or a new one, but Maya and Mercedes are both fine and given that the gremlins share spoons, cups, toys etc. I'd think if it was a gastro bug they'd both have it.
