I just feel so bad...........
Today Kahtrell woke up from his nap and I had him on the bed. I just reached over to grab him some blocks to occupy him while I change his nappy.......and he toppled off and hit his head on the floor
He was screaming for a few minutes while I rushed to get a damp cloth to place on his forehead, then he settled himself by sucking his thumb..with a few sobs here in there. I was crying more than him!! and for longer. I just kept apologising to him over and over and over. I'm suppose to be protecting him you know. I've never felt so bad and guilt ridden. He has a mark on his forehead (which I'm dreading what its gonna turn into by morning) He was fine straight afterward but I feel like the worst mother ever. Other times I've been able to save him but this time he was just too quick for me. It's his first ever fall so I think thats why I'm so upset at myself about it.

I will admit my deep dark secret to make you feel better - I did the exact same thing to DD when she was six months old. Felt soooooo bad and she was completely fine, but even thinking about it now makes me feel stink.
*HUGS* you're not the only one. He's fine and won't even remember it by now.

dont beat yourself up over it, it happens. we dont have eyes in the back of our heads and we dont have a million hands and arms. we can only do so much.

Confession: i have scratched my DD with my ring on her cheek. and once, when i had long nails, i managed to puncture the delicate skin beside her eye with one. we all make mistakes.
((hugs))

You are d@mn right!!
Floor changes from now on lol. Thanks Mazzy its reassuring to know that I'm not the only one to have had this happen. I guess its a passage that all babies go through, I guess it was gonna happen eventually.I know that we can't always prevent our kids from being hurt, especially curious babies.
Its just that you want to take the pain away from them so bad.

Well I must say that 7 months without a tumble or anything is pretty good. He's sleeping ok so hopefully we'll have no troubles during the night.

Hmmmmmm changing table incident...do tell

Anywho I've now taken a vowel of being the most over protective mum.......when it comes to potential falls....from beds lolz.

when caitlyn was 6months she fell asleep in my bed one night and i was too lazy to put her back then in the middle of the night i heard a big thud, followed by a scream, id flung my arms out and flung my poor bubba out of bed

then there was the time when she was 2 when she fell down my friends steps (12 of them)

and a few other incidences ( i wont list them all, you'll fall asleep ) but basically as much as you can try and protect them, sometimes they are gonna get hurt.
Your job as a good mama is to provide the cuddles afterwards and kiss away the tears-which you did so you = good mum

First of all welcome to the not so exclusive club!. I remember when Micheal was about 2 months old he was in his bassinet and someone has moved it over (it was in the Kitchen) he woke up and I went to pick him up and as I did I smashed his head into his highchair which unnoticed by me was overhanging the bassinet. He had a huge bump on the bridge of his nose and I even managed to put a wee cut on his nose.

Gosh I've tripped on kids, trapped several different fingers in doors the list goes on.

No matter how much you love your children unfortunately sometimes accidents happen, it's what happens after that, that counts.

Just wanted to say, like everyone else, that it happens to everyone!! HUGS!! You're not a bad mum!!

A friend once said to me when Joey was tiny that I wouldn't be a real mum until I had accidently smacked his head into the door frame or something like that, LOLOL

Accidents do happen, you sound a bit chirpier now, and I bet your little one is completely over it. Hope that the 'war wound' isn't too extensive?

*shugs and sticks her hand up* My eldest when he was around 8 months old fell off my bed - not only that he landed on the vacume cleaner. Big fat lip followed...

so your not a lone and you definately NOT a bad mother.

My kids think i am the best mum in the world (biased that they are) and the things that have happened to them...

Nope you are most definately not a terrible mother. If you were then there will be absolutely no good mothers in this world at all and everyone will fight for the worst mother of the year instead of the best mother of the year award.

I once didnt strap McKayla in her feeding chair. Our dog started making noises so I turned around and left. Literally a second later I heard dwah. This child fell out onto a tile floor. Trust me I had a big shock. Called her pediatrician and he told me what to check out for and made me feel better at the same time.

This is now after I gave how many speeches to hubby about strapping her in ect. But I was feeding her a snack and she would have been in there for like 5 minutes with me there the whole time.

Been there, done that... many a time! Until you can't count how many times you have almost killed your child, you have nothing to worry about! (I'm on my toes btw - ran out of fingers )

So far Sienna is the only one of mine I haven't done serious bodily harm to. I dropped Maya sideways out of the jolly jumper at 3 mths, and put her on my bed when she was 8 mths forgetting she could crawl and she crawled straight over the edge flat on her face.

And don't even get me started on Mercedes. Aside from the change table incident, she's fallen over when she was standing up by the exersaucer and she fell straight out the front of the rocker and put her tooth thru her lip coz I didn't strap her in. And Maya pushed her forwards out of the Bumbo chair at about 3 mths.

So yeah, if you're a bad mother, I guess that makes me one of those people that shouldn't be allowed to procreate

Most people I know have done this at some stage in their baby's life. You aren't a terrible mummy at all!

I do always put my boys on the floor, but I have banged ones head on a table when I was getting up, and one under the breakfast bar when getting up too.

Awwwwwwwww thank you ladies HUGS HUGS.
I'm feeling much better about the whole incident......except the fact that DP said he's probably got brain damage now ...the a-hole!!..excuse the language lol.
As for Kahtrell's war wounds...well he has a little mark under his eye, and virtually no bump/bruising on his forehead. He seems oblivious to the fact that he had a big fall yesterday.
And thank you all very much for saying I'm a terrific mum!! I think I've only ever been told that once or twice, by my older sister, and my mum. So thank you from the bottom of my heart....it made me teary
