Hi everyone, im sorry if this sort of post has been done before but i was wondering how you go about potty training? my DD is only 10 months but is walking, (has been for awhile now) and everytime anyone goes to the toilet she REALLY wants to be in there with you and screams at the door when we wont let her, also when she has no nappy on she very rearly does a mess on the floor and when she has done a mess in her nappy she tells you too. is there such thing as to young to start?

they always want to go in the toilet - its so you never get a chance for some peace and quiet. I think there is such a thing as too early. IMO if they cant take off their own clothes and get themselves on the toilet its too early. you could try a potty tho and see how it goes but i wouldnt push it at this age. i'll bump up our toilet training thread - that might have some tips for you.

My daughter was exactly the same. I will tell you what I ended up doing. She will come to me at first and dragged me to where the nappies are. I will take a nappy and have to change her. I soon see she would either just have done a poo or about too. But didnt push it.

Later she would just say poo when she did one and we had to change really quickly.

We then got a potty and before bath we put her one it and tell her to go wee wee. By saying pssst. Well she thought that was great fun and sits on the potty and say pssst (we sure didnt think that one through). She did a few wee's. Then she backs up totally and wont tell you when she has done a poo again and 2 months later go through the whole process again.

Got her a seat for the toilet but she gets freaked out by that.

If I am you I will get a potty. Play with it but dont expect anything at all. Remember their bladder muscles cant keep it in yet. So although she is aware she might not have active control over it. But get a potty let her try at least that way it wont be foreign to her once you want to really start trying. And maybe you are lucky and she just does this all on her own.

Caitlin has had a potty from about 6 months as the position and the routine of sitting on it after lunch every day helps with her pooping issues (or not pooping issues ).
She's an early walker too and also insists on being in the bathroom with you and laughs AT you when she sees you sitting on the "potty" then walks out again! Cheeky madam

Anyways, we were told by a specialist that just because she can associate the potty with what she should do in it doesn't mean her body is ready to poop/wee on command or for her to have any control over it.

I agree with GandT, it's pointless potty training the child if they can't get themselves undressed and ready to sit on it when they need to go. But it also doesn't hurt to introduce it at an early age so you don't have to deal with the fear of it when the time comes.

I'm going to have a read through the old TTing threads and get some ideas on when and how too
