What about the cat?

Don't worry too much, your cat will adapt to the new arrival. We have a very highly strung Siamese and I have forever been worried about how she would react to a baby in the house. She is 10, very set in her ways, usually quite vicious and downright moody. Plus we treated her like a little person and spoilt her rotten.
DH and I had agreed if she looked like she was going to harm Samantha she would have to go.
Anyway, she has been absolutley fine. In fact she is almost protective of Sam, and if she is really screaming, Jarrah will be there glaring at me like I am doing something wrong. She gives me this look as if to say 'here, give her to me, I know what to do'. Makes me feel like a complete idiot some of the time. She has never done anything that makes me think she would swipe, claw or bite Sam, so all is good.
Also as a handy hint. To keep our cats out of the cot, we filled it with ballons and when the cats tried to jump in it they burst some. Scared them half to death and they haven't gone near it since

My sister had a cat that would definitely have jumped into the cot to sleep with bub so they had to keep the nursery door closed all the time. It was a huge room so it never got stuffy or anything. Essentially their cat was banned from going in there at all.

We have an indoor cat and are wondering how he is going to get on once baby comes. We've had the cot set up for nearly a month and he hasn't once tried to jump into it (although he loves sleeping under it). He's not a cuddly cat though and when he's around other babies he doesn't seem to concerned by them. Their crying just makes him curious. And he doesn't bite or scratch either. So we think we'll be alright but it may come down to having to keep the nursery door closed when we're not watching just to make sure he doesn't jump into the cot.

We have three cats, there is no way we would have got rid of them...they are just not allowed in Maddie's room. *snort* like that stops them!

Bosco is totally Maddie's cat anyway, the things he puts up with!!

we worried about the animals at first too, but funnily enough, they dont LIKE the sounds a baby makes, and ours hightail it out of there once jordis starts crying.

we have a problem with the cat trying to sleep in the pram if it is left in the hall (sunny room, sheepskin in pram, mmmmm) but he tries not to go near jordis so we are pretty relaxed about it. the problem is trying to get the cat close enough so she can touch him, as she just LURVES him! even has a special "coo" for him - neither her dad or i have our own special call!!!

Sterryn I love the idea of putting balloons in a cot, I might surround myself with balloons next time I want her to leave me alone. We've tried squirting her sometimes but it works for all of 10 seconds. She's very needy and if DH so much as pats my head she's right there in the middle.
Poor Tigger, she's very confused about which one of god's creatures she's supposed to be. She's been in the family since birth.......
Sending her away or shutting her out of a room won't be an option, she's too darn persistant. Won't even play in the garden unless you go with her.
I'm sure we'll work it out at the time.
