I'm 38 weeks and 4 days preggy.. Went to my midwife yesterday, and she took my blood pressure 3 times, twice with the small cuff and once with the large cuff to double check it because it was HIGH as! It has been slowly going up throughout my pregnancy, but not so much as to cause concern.. until now. I also had protein in my urine test, and so had to do a blood test this morning to check that i don't have eclampsia or anything. I am scared! this is my first baby, and so far my pregnancy has gone really well... I don't mind being induced too much, I'm just really worried that the contractions will be more than I can handle... Especially since I have heard some pretty bad stories about induced labours!! I am trying not to stress too much coz i know it's bad for baby, and I've only got a week and 3 days till im due anyways, but the reality is sort of starting to kick in that I'm going to have a baby, and I dont really want to miss out on the excitement of waters breaking, having a show, going into labour randomly at 2am etc :)
Please... Has anyone else been induced? Were your labours okay? Did the excitement stay?

Well everything that you have said in your post I went through!!
Was 9 days away from my due date when I had my appointment with my midwife (to finalise birth plan etc) and she took my blood pressure and it was high as (can't remember off the top of my head) next day I was in Hospital for monitoring and an ultrasound, and the day after that (a wednesday) I was induced.
I had a bad experience being induced - found out after they put the gel onto my cervix that I was allergic to it, then had Pethadine a few hours later and it didn't sit well with me. I was booked in for an emergency c-section at about 9pm (i have skipped about 10 hours!) had the epidural for it and Arna was born 16 mins later!! (Naturally)

So for me the start was bad (in my eyes) but the end couldn't have been better.

How many +'s of protein did you have? And are you seeing your midwife again this week?

Feel free to PM me if you want

Please dont stress too much,i can imagine how scared you are but alot of people go through this and say that in the end all that mattered was having a healthy baby i am sending you many positive thoughts and heaps of good luck hugs

i had pre eclampsia with both my girls and had to have c.sections but they are 10 and 5 now and are doing great

               KEEP YOUR CHIN UP!!

hi
I was induced as jake was two weeks late. First the midwife hooked me up to some machine to check baby's heartbeat. I sat there for about 30 minutes. After that she broke my waters and said to go to the cafe and come back when the contractions were well-established. Walked to the elevator, went down, went to the toilet, got back in the elevator and back to the suite. had about 5 contractions during this time. Now, they were painful and strong, but able to be handled. the worst thing about them was that they came on very quickly, rather than natural labour which seems to be a bit slower I think. Anyway, about 4 hours of that I was fully dilated, and an hour and half of pushing Jake was born. he was posterior which usually either means a c-section or long labour. i had neither, which i think may be due to the raspberyy leaf tea that i drank a lot of. My husband has another suggestion which i think is very rude and won't put here!!

to make a long story longer, my experiences with being induced was not so bad. as i said, contractions came on suddenly which wasn't so good, but they were okay.   I had gas and pethidine - both no problem. good luck!!!

Just remember - it's only one day!! and you get a gorgeous bubba at the end.

hi Anjelmajik, as lizzle says, it's only one day and what you get at the end of it...man it's undescibable! (sp?) the love you feel for this little person is soooo incredible!

unfortunately the labour part of pregnancy doesn't always go as we want it to but the end result is the same. i understand what you mean about not wanting to lose the excitement of waters breaking and the build up of labour as i had an elective c-section because jack was breech posterior. it was still exciting and there's always next time!
sorry for the novel, i hope everything is going ok and will be thinking of you

i have been induced twice...and they were both v diff births. i felt i had missed out on the excitement of waking hubby in the middle of the night etc too...but in the end it was the labour that was the important thing. just remember too that you may have been induced anyway if bub over and that you can still have some say if being induced just make sure you get all options and scenarios explained to you.
all the best, and try not to worry too much,

I was induced with my first and everything went good. I was in labour for 6 hours well 3 actually pushing baby out. Hopefully this time i won't have to be induced cause i wanna see what its like without an induced labour. Anyway i wish you the best and a safe delivery of your little bubs.
