Things are rather entertaining in my house this morning. We are embarking on a 2-day mission to train up my DH so that he can have his first day of SAHD on Monday. It's so hilarious to watch him try to mimic my ordinary kind of day!

First up, I cooked pancakes for a special breakfast so that was a little unordinary. But the kids followed me upstairs and DH fell back asleep without realising and when he did come up for breakfast the kids had already finished. He didn't realise he was missing out on any activity yet lol. So he has breakfast and gets the girls hands cleaned and dressing organised (thankfully the older two dress themselves and only need encouragement). And before we knew it, it was almost time for Kryssi's morning sleep. So Briona and Kryssi's morning nappy change was in order but wait - he needed some pen and paper to sort out who has what sizes and inserts (MCNs), and then how to wash them as well. So yes, after the changes it was a hands-on () put the nappies in the wash experience By this time he has lost count of how many hand washes he has been through and his stomach is threatening to dry-retch at nappy (poo) smells!!

Two loads of washing later, a play outside with the girls, and morning tea conquered, he has finally got on the CD that he's been talking about since 2 hours ago and is starting on the breakfast dishes. I did offer to help but he is rather intent on his training! I asked him if he had had morning tea for himself and he replied that "it's not 10.30 yet" (obviously that was his work morning tea time). Hmm yea have something to eat mate!

There's still another load of washing to put on and out and the lounge is still a mess. I'm doing some reorganising of a clutter pile so that I don't get in the way of what his "ordinary day" encompasses. Later this afternoon he'll have to fold the washing he has put out and cook dinner, and Kryssi will be awake for a lot more of that time... I think he's going to sleep well tonight!

Good luck Nat!

Teresa, I think he's going to have a whole new appreciation of what life as a SAHParent is all about

Sounds like a lot of fun going on in your house. He'll appreciate why you call yourself 'busymum'.

remember "busydad" that your new routine doesn't necessarily have to be exactly the same!!!!

i agree... find what works for you and the kids as a team. and busymum you should try and not get hurt or upset if he does it differently. men dotn think the same as we do so he is prob better off finding his own rhythm.

Yeah I'm starting to think I'd be better off trying things my way rather than copy what busymum does. Some of her "routines" aren't working for me.

Oh no probs with that, I was mostly teaching him the girls eat/sleep routines - which will be (if nothing else) a very good starting point

I reckon he's alright. He knows how to make formula and fun And he has the nappy stuff all written down from Saturday. Anything else and the kids will tell him - most likely Briona will decide she needs about 3 morning teas and 2 afternoon teas before I get home
