Topic: Reaction to MMR jab Posted: 27 September 2007 at 10:09am |
Ashleigh had her 15 mth imms last Tuesday and over the last couple of days has had high temps, bit grizzly and slight rash at the top of her neck in her hairline. I'm assuming that it is a reaction to the MMR injection as these are all listed as side affects. She also has a slight runny nose aswell which I'm not sure is related. Anyway I'm not overly concerned but just wondered if any other kiddies had a reaction and how long it carried on for?

When Ben had his we were told that the reaction could happen up to a week afterwards ( rash etc) and could last up to a week.
If shes still sickly after a week I would take her in just to be sure its not something else, good luck

I was given the standard handout that had all the reaction information and with rubella there is a fever 12hrs after immunizations which can last for up to a day. Then there is only the measles reaction which can arrive anywhere from 5-12 days after injection, it comes with a fever and a rash.
Olivia had a slight reaction to the rubella. And no rash but a fever and general off feeling nearly 2 weeks later for the measles imm. The rash is hugely common though.

just a question as we aren't 100% sure if we're going to get this one done as there has been such bad press about it in the UK.
Can you get the MMR split up here? or do you have to have it done as 1 jab?

They split the jabs into 2 injections, one in the arm and one in the thigh. I think the one in the arm is Rubella and the one in the thigh is measles and mumps. I am sure if you rang the O800 IMMUNISE line, the could answer any questions you have about splitting them up.

Ashleigh's was only given in 1 injection - into the arm. The one in the thigh was Hib (haemophilus influenzae type b). It lists the different imms you get at each time in your Well Child book

Oliver had a temp for a few days after his 15 month jabs, though I actually think it was a reaction to the Hib jab rather than MMR as he didn't have a rash, but the injection site on his leg was very red, hot and swollen.
In the end we took him to the doctor because it just seemed to be getting worse and found he also had a very red throat and swollen tonsils! Ended up on antibiotics which cleared it up after a couple of days - and then I got my happy boy back

Maya had an IgE reaction to her 15 mth MMR, she got a huge raised lump within the ten minute waiting period and had to have adrenalin. It settled quickly tho and she had no ongoing probs, except she did have to have the 4 year MMR at Starship under supervision.
