QuoteReplyTopic: Passport in Maiden Name Posted: 30 September 2007 at 3:54pm
We are flying to Raro at 9.30am tomorrow and I just realised my passport is in my maiden name. I got it 6 years ago but have never used it so didn't even think of it.
I'm guessing if I take photo ID + marriage cert it'll be ok???
Also, just checked all the stuff we were given from the travel agent and there is only 1 ticket in there and it is for Elle. Will the others be e-tickets?
Sorry! I've never been overseas before so don't know a thing.
You should ring the airline and find out from them about the ticket being in a different name to the passport. You "may" have to pay a charge to have it changed to the name in the passport.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Anyone know if i'll have any probs?
If you are flying Air NZ chances are you won't be allowed on the plane, unless you get a nice check in agent but then you might not be allowed to board coming back....to be safest your ticket will have to be changed to your maiden name.
Oh and yes you may have to pay to amend the name on the ticket. Fees vary from agent to agent.
Don't feel bad....I've seen it happen lots and the travel agent should have asked to see your passports to be sure....it was standard policy for us to ask for passports for that reason.
These things do happen though...it will get worked out though!
agent should have asked for your passport number tho....havent come across any who book without your passport number lately!!!
BTW we also took a copy of Ellas birth cert with us....just in case as I flew in maiden name and she has DHs name....umm call it overly cautious family lawyer.... didnt want Interpol stopping me for kidnapping! now that would have been hysterical....NOT! and not joking cause it IS school holidays and this is when absconding from NZ take place....
Maybe the agent needs the no commission to be reminded to check passport names? Well I'm glad everything has been sorted quickly for ya. $50 isn't too bad in the scheme of things but it's a bit cheeky considering they don't have to pay commission either! Have a great holiday
ive had this problem before too, and yeah had to get it changed. what amazes me though is my birth name (on my birth cert) is different to my maiden name. I top my step fathers name but he has never formally adopted me or anything so my passport is in my birth name but every other peice of id i have (until I got married) was in my step fathers name and now of course i have my married name and i have never once been questioned about it... bit of a worry really when i could use any of the names!
your agent wont be getting any commission off the flights anyway as Air NZ don't give commission on south pacific travel. Its not entirely your travel agents fault, but all good agents will check your passports to avoid these situations. You agent is just lucky they didn't have you calling them and stressing at the last minute. Well done for getting it sorted yourself. Have an awesome time in raro.
Def tell your agent about it when you get back

I was going to do that when going to the USA.. thought about it right when we were leaving! and couldn't find her birth certificate anywhere. Had no choice but to risk it (DP was overseas already and we met him over there) but customs had no problem, I even asked them in Akld. Was still paranoid that they would think she wasn't my daughter though!!

I always take the girls ones with me too, and when Willie and I were separated I always took a copy of the custody order for Maya too just in case to prove that I had sole legal custody of her.

I've flown Ryanair in Europe with my ticket in my full first name + married name whereas my passport has my shortened first name + my maiden name.
(My FIL booked the tickets)
Using my marriage cert as verification was sufficient and this was with Ryanair who are anal b**tards and won't let you board a flight between Ireland and England if your driving licence is out of date. (happened to my dad)
On a slight side note this morning I flew from Hamilton to Wellington and the checkin lady only asked me for my surname. No asking for my id/ff card or anything.
