I've just made a 'test cake' of the cake I am making for the gremlins. I am making them one each and the cakes won't be chocolate, one will be pale pink and one will be lime, and the pebbles will all be the same color (green on the lime cake and pink on the pink cake). But does this look OK? I've never used ready to roll icing before so this is a practise run...

Really good. Was the icing hard to use?
That plate is perfect for that shaped cake too.

Do you want it taste tested too, cos I don't mind trying some.
I can't heat up bake beans, so am well impressed that someone could make a cake, beyond me.
Looks super yummy and I'm sure the gremlins with love the lime and pink ones.

No the icing was really easy, I just kneaded it then rolled it out using a glass coz I don't have a rolling pin. It said to use cocoa powder to stop it sticking to the board but after it was finished you could still see bits of the cocoa powder so I brushed the whole thing with apricot jam melted in boiling water to even the color out and it also made the pebbles stick. Way easier that using the butter cream icing, and looks much better too.

That looks great! sooo yummy too! I did a four for Chloe's birthday and found that the butter cream was really difficult to get even so next time I might have to use that icing too.

Yum! Looks great!
Now when you make the actual cakes, remember to put them somewhere that ants can't get to!

Yup, I've made the actual cakes, they're in the freezer. The ants can't get in there, altho I'm sure they'd try!

Could you use that icing easily for a teddy bear shape or would it be too fiddly?

I think so, I basically just put it on like a blanket and then trimmed the edges and molded it to the cake. The 1 is made from 3 separate pieces but it holds them together really well.

Looks awesome Emma! You'd NEVER guess it was your first attempt.
Just for future reference, when you are using that kind of icing and have 'rolling dust' (cocoa for choc and icing sugar for white/cream) you just rub your hands over the cake gently (works better if your hands are warm) and the sugar in the icing slightly melts and absorbs the dust - it can take a few mins of rubbing. Sounds gross, but that's what the cake makers do! Just make sure you wash your hands I guess!!
