Ok Please tell me what you are using at night.

I have one super pee'er. Last night I had him in a Fuzzi and it had in it 1x peapod trifold 2x hemp single layer and 3x mircofibre insert. After 12 1/2 hours it was totally soaked and so was Josh. I can't really afford to but the honeychild inserts at the moment, so for those that don't use them what do you stuff your nappy with???

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

OMG how did you fit all that in his nappy.
What I would suggest is to use more hemp. I have a super pee'er as well and I use 2x HC microfibre and 1 x Hemp, my hemp insert is 4 layers. After 12 hours it is absolutely sodden but 9 times out of 10 he is still dry.
I know you said you don't have money for HC insert so what I would do is replace at least one of your microfibre inserts with a hemp, and I would put the microfibre closest to the skin. Microfibre soaks up quicker but hemp is more absorbent. Hope that helps, I know what its like to have a wet bub in the morning, not nice.

wow thats pretty good going...i wonder at what stage it starts to leak out?

do you have any BKT (burley knit terry) inserts? they are very absorbent and hold heaps too.   In my big boys night nappy i have a fuzzi insert and booster (the older ones) and a flat. if you have any of the old fashioned flats maybe try one if those, they hold a lot when folded up to fit in pockets.

also do you have any tight clothes over the nappy cause it can be compression wicking if you do.

Ahhh I didn't realise when you text me that you only had single layer hemp inserts. Mine are 2 and 3 layer ones. So you may need more hemp

Cool i'll try some of those, last night I had him in 2x peapod trifold and 5 layers of microfibre and it didn't leak  , but was very soaked - so hopefully in this wind I can get the inserts dry. I have some flats, and he leaked through that but trying it with something else might work. I'm putting him to bed in  Petite Fuzzi so its a little bit bigger for him in the rise to get everything in.

He goes to bed in size 1 PJ's so nothing tight around is butt - already learnt that lesson

I bought (read: made my husband buy) some 40/60 bamboo/cotton bath sets (2 towels, 2 flannels and a handtowel) from Arbuckles... neither of my boys are heavy wetters, and a fuzzi or hc insert, plus either the handtowel (Xavier) or the two flannels (Josiah) folded to make 6 layers does them overnight... it lasted 15 hours one time when I wasn't well and hadn't changed them straight away. By not heavy wetters I mean that a single fuzzi or hc microfibre insert will last either boy between 3 and 4 hours during the day.

This combo is reliable enough for us that when I hadn't got the night inserts dry one day, Nat was happier for me to go out and buy a pack of disposibles than he was for me to try 2 honeychild inserts overnight.

I got my hemp inserts from mumsandbubs, they have stores in Avondale and in Merivale and a website that you can order from. The lady showed me some bumgenius ones at bumbles which looked pretty good as well, but I don't think they were quite as thick

I bought my 2 layer hemp trifolds off trade me (so folded makes 6layers). I also have some of the super soaker hemp inserts from baby harmony (the 4 layer ones). If I was to do all my nappy buying again but with the knowledge I have now I think I would buy the fabric and make some myself (or get someone to make them for me). I've just put Kaleb down (at 8.30) in a premium prefold and one of the hemp trifolds with a woollen soaker over the top so fingers crossed he goes through!

Seriously, you ladies with heavy night wetters need to get hold of a woollen soaker or longies to go over top of your fully stuffed pockets. It was the only thing that stopped Han from waking up absolutely drenched. I got a Designer Bums merino wool cover.
