Not sure how to do the linky thing but basically
Woman dies and smothers baby
Police are calling the deaths of a mother and her baby a tragic and freak accident - the woman died and accidentally smothered child
23 October 2007
Police say the death of a mother and her child near Christchurch is a "tragic and freak accident".
Sergeant Danny Harker says police were called to an address in Lincoln at about 8am yesterday, where the death of a 36-year-old woman and her 10-month-old baby had been reported.
Mr Harker says a post-mortem examination today revealed the woman, Irene Skurr, died of deep vein thrombosis. He says it appears she was feeding her baby son, Cameron McDrury, when she died and accidentally smothered him.
Mr Harker says there are no suspicious circumstances and the freak accident has traumatised the family.

That's so sad. I read an article on this earlier but they didn't say how she had died - only that it was of natural causes and I was wondering how the baby had also died. How horrible for their family.

That is awful aye.. i found it interesting the spin they put on it on the news last night "a devasting breastfeeding accident" I felt a bit like it was blaming breastfeeding in some way.. just my 2 cents, i do see how it was .. but i just thought that statement was a bit off.

Yeah they worded it similar to that in MSN- saying that health workers were having to reassure BFing mothers that their babies aren't at risk. Trust the NZ media to put that spin on it.
So sad

Yes, what a terrible double tragedy. And what's worse is that's its not even something other Mums can learn from because it was such a freak accident there was nothing that could have prevented it. Gosh, life is so unfair sometimes
