Topic: Hot..Hot..Hot Posted: 11 January 2006 at 12:08pm |
I'ts been so hot lately. Especially at home even when i got all the windows and doors open. The fan even blows warm air. Man i don't think i can last through this summer if its gonna be this hot. Maybe someone has some hints on keeping cool. It would be much appreciated.

Try a nice cool-ish bath. And lots of iced water. And keeping your clothes to a minimum (i just wear a singlet and boy leg underpants round the house).

I remember my friend being preggy thru summer and she just live in her bra/bikini top and a sarong. And she had the fan on and drunk heaps of cool drinks. Made her feel abit more comfy.
Maybe you could get a cheap toddlers pool or borrow one and lay in that when the heat gets too much and have it under the shade for more coolness??

I lived in japan through a heatwave - 50 days of over 30 degree temps, with 90% humidity. If you get too hot, malls are great, air conditioned places. Take a magazine and sit down in a coffee shop. Often they have free water too.
I used to go to the supermarket alot too and hang out near the freezer (we didn't have an aircon at home the first year).
The paddling pool was great, as is sitting in a cool bath, coolish shower. I found though, that a cold shower actually made me feel hotter when I got out. No idea why. Putting a bag of peas in a towel and using it on my neck was also lovely.

Ah the baby furnace. wasn't all that pleasant in winter to tell the truth. Spent the winter months in Dunedin sleeping with my window wide open covered by a sheet.
Don't know how you ladies cope with it!!!
Big appliance stores are always nicely air conditioned... or if you find a furniture store you could always try out the couches and beds. It always takes a decent sit down to see which one you'd like to buy

Japan had massage chairs which you were supposed to buy, but people would just sit in. Sometimes you'd come across old people snoozing in them. Anyway, i must've spent a good deal of each pregnancy lodged in a massage chair. The staff come over, but then saw i was a foreginer. Sometimes they'd speak english and start to talk, but, nd I'm kinda embaressed about this, but it worked on many levels - I'd pretend I couldn't speak English. I'd speak Maori instead. But my Maori was limited to saying things like
"Tauranga? Tahi rua toru wha wanganui!"
anyway, the moral of the story is that they rarely kick out the pregnant crazy lady.
