Recommendations needed please...
It's 11.25pm and I'm still on my computer working and my brain has turned to mush. Today is DH's 30th and I'm taking him out for dinner tomorrow night. I'd like to go somewhere really nice & comfortable & a lil' bit posh. A menu that includes steak would be preferable. Preferably not on the North Shore as it's too far away.
Any recommendations?

Well done!
Eye Fillet & Seafood Skewers
Eye fillet, Tiger prawns & prosciutto wrapped scallops, skewered, grilled & served with a potato herb hash, balsamic onions, chilli jam & sauce béarnaise
DH would ADORE that meal!
What is with charging $6.50 to open your bottle of wine though?!?! Gee whizz...they'll charge for serivettes next! "Oh, you want a napkin?...that'll be an extra $5 please". LOL Or perhaps BYOC...bring your own cutlery!

Claret is really nice but for a 30th I'd go somewhere a little bit posher like One Tree Grill. Here's their menu

Try the Engine Room or Eight Two over on the shore. They both do really nice food. The Engine Room is probably the posher of the two where as Eight Two is casual with first class food IMO. You may find it hard to get a booking being Friday already as they are usually quite popular.
Otherwise the French Cafe on Symonds Street is delicious. Depending on how much you are willing to spend give the chef's tasting menu a go.
I would also have a look on the internet at your local vineyards and see what's handy to you. Vineyards are always a good place to go for delicious food and of course great wine.
Have a fantastic night.

"Red" on Jervois Road is great, not just cos of the name either ....
Went to Hammerheads a few weeks ago which was lovely, very pricey though. Service was really good as well which seems to be hard to get theses days!

O'Connell Street Bistro is wonderful. Intimate, romantic and amazing food.
We've been to claret once, and quite frankly I hated it (sorry to those who like it). The food looked and tasted like they'd ordered it in from a catering company, heated it in the microwave and then served. And it was expensive.

We are also having a family party on Sunday and a night out with friends to Widlfire next week so we don't need to go toooooooooooo posh and expensive tonight! My bank account will be stretched enough! He got 11 CDs (imported so cheaper), a coffee machine, chocolates.....etc so he is already spoilt enough me thinks!

We didn't get one this year and can't think of anyone. Might go for Claret or Red. We went to Claret 2 years ago and enjoyed it. It is only 5mins from our home too.

I'm on Onehunga Mall I'm down at Dressmart quite often too
Keep in mind that Claret have new owners. They have recently had a review done by the herald and it wasn't very good.
Review
I would recommend Francoli in Ellerslie - beautiful food.
