I used to work for 018 before I had Andrew and my friend still works there and was told on Monday that she was losing her job to the Phillipenes.

I think it is such a stupid move. A lot of the people working up there have lost their jobs and the worst thing is for the people of NZ as the kiwi accent is very strong and things are going to be lost in translation.

Some people up there have difficulties with Maori names can you imagine how much more problems there will be next October??? I have dealt with some customers that have packed a paddy at a CSP as she could pronouce a Maori place name correctly .

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

the company had a party at Lewis' work the other night and then we read the paper tonight - gutted for them. I remeber reading thatin the US quite a few call centres are answered by prisoners - that could have been from a tv show though so don't quote me.

That is such a stupid move IMO and all because it's cheaper. I can't be bothered trying to deal with companies that outsource their call centres to foreign countries. All for an extra buck but at the expense of customer satisfaction.

Yeah I couldn't believe that they are moving the 018 call centre to the Phillipines, it sucks for Sitel (I work for them in Hamilton). Especially as the Palmy call centre have won international awards in the past few years.

I think that the CSPs in the Phillipines are going to struggle, particularly with Maori names.

in Japan we met numerous Filipino ladies - often working as nannies, maid or "fun time girls" and I found their english to be really good BUT the accent is particulary hard to understand. We had a filipino "lady" Mika who used to chat to Lewis and any other guy and they would often have to get her to repeat herself. often they wished they hadn't though - she had quite a command of the english language.

I think it is such a crap move. booo telecom

I found out some more about it from my friend. White Pages were sold to the new Yellow pages company and as the contract for 018 and 0172 were up for renewal that was there chance to more. My friend worked last night and had to write done all the negative comments from the customers and she wrote heaps down.

After I left I had it in my head that Sitel would lose the contract (due to staff issues up there) and I told a guy working up there that they would and I was right. I still feel for the people up there thou.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
