what kind are you having..i have avoided all chinese food...esp rice/noodles as it has the highest cases of food poisoning( i assume cause its precooked or something?

not sure about the MSG..i just got told to avoid chinese food so i have..but that could be because I'm paranoid..i was especially bad during the first tri but getting better at eating a broader range of food..

ops, I ate Chinse food thru out my pregnancy and didn't have any problems (don't think I had any in the first 3 months though but that was more because I had really bad morning sickness and couldn't keep ANYTHING down- apart from McDonald Chicken nuggets- don't ask me why, but they tasted soooooo good).

I usually ask for no MSG these days, and I reckon it actually tastes better without. Assume that most places cook with it unless they state otherwise.

i got told it was because of food poisoning but it seems to be because of MSG..most of the literature says stuff like this..

Also, try to avoid processed and artificial foods. These include saccharine, which can cause cancer, and monosodium glutamate (MSG), which can raise blood pressure and cause diarrhea and allergic reactions in some people. MSG is found in many packaged products, including chips, cheesy crackers, gravies, soups, Chinese food, meat tenderizer, and some spice mixes. Other artificial sweeteners, such as Nutrasweet and Splenda may be used in moderation in pregnancy, as there has been no specific research proving their harm. Caffeine is not recommended at more than the equivalent of two six-ounce cups of coffee a day (or four eight-ounce servings of caffeinated soda or six-ounce cups of tea), as higher amounts might contribute to miscarriages. To be as safe as possible, eat natural foods and try to avoid chemical ingredients, other than vitamins and minerals, altogether.

So many things have MSG in them! Almost all chips (its listed as Monosodium Glutamate, or flavour enhancer 621/E621), lots of crackers with flavouring like Shapes etc, heaps of the packet meal sachets/sauces esp the asian flavoured ones. Most Soy sauce does too and I never once found an instant noodle pack that didn't have it.

Nasty stuff- my Mum gets wicked migranes whenever she has it and thats mild compared to what it does to some people!

Yeah, like Jen said you're probably already eating it in other stuff without realising it. Chinese food seems to bear the brunt of the MSG backlash even tho its in heaps of other stuff. Its not til you start reading labels for whatever reason you realise how much crap is in packaged food.

We dont buy much in the way of pre-prepared/packaged food, biscuits, crackers etc anymore and to be honest I feel a lot better for it - might be all in my head, but I have read/seen some pretty horrid stuff about additives.

I get terrible headaches from msg too....i think it's in the soy sauce they use?? I thought the case with chinese was because of the smorgasboard set up most of them use along with the reaheating of rice / noodles.
I saw my girlfriend eating chinese the other day and she is 36 weeks with her 4th...she didnt think anything of it, would like to know what the midwife thinks??
