Topic: Baby Capsule - What one? Posted: 25 January 2006 at 11:27am |
Just wanted some help on what kind of newborn Capsule to get.
We want to buy one and I am thinking of either getting an
Evenflow Portabout 5 Capsule with Base. Has anyone used this before if so what are the good and bad points of this type?
OR
Bebe - Phil and Teds newborn Capsule. This I like because it can match our Phil and Ted Buggy that we plan to buy it is also much lighter than other capsules when empty. I am not too familiar with this one and wondered has anyone used one of these and why is it good or bad?
Thanks for your help!!

We had an evenflo capsule with base for the twins. It made life so much easier as you don't have to play around with seatbelts you just clip the carseat into the base and away you go. Also we had a car crash when the twins were 5 weeks old, (me falling asleep and hitting a tree) and with the bases the carseats didn't move an inch. We were so glad that we had the bases, i think they are a really good idea.

I've just done a lot of 'research' on baby Capules and ended up getting the Baby Trend Capsule with base (it has the triangle on the top, good grip on the handle). It looked more comfortable than some and I also liked the colour. I liked the Bill and Teds one also but to me it seemed so much smaller than the other ones. I would also recommend getting the Snap n Go Wheels (either Hire or Buy) - great if you need to go shopping for 15mns or so. Its amazing how heavy the capsules can get especially as the baby gets bigger!

I'm glad we didn't buy one as our chub chub grew out of it at 4 and a half months!

My dad bought us an evenflo one which was great and has been good with Taine too, but i second it being really heavy!! I saw some wheelie things that they can clip into on trademe. I am pretty sure if you rent one from the baby factory you can get one of those. I would suggest renting as well, nuless you can get someone to buy it for you!

Hey I don't know if it's any good or not but I saw some capsules in the Warehouse today that can be used up to 13kg rear facing (around 1 year). They meet all the safety standards etc. and are only $149 so might be worth checking out?

Well I've laybyed the Evenflo Portabout 5 capsule with base after kasbee's recommendation and after playing around them all them all today.
I like that it was lighter than the others we picked up (didn't try the Phil and Ted's though) and I really liked the base. We are getting ours from Winkalotts so it's $150.00 compared to $200.00 which I was pretty happy about too!

Hi there, you can usually get some quite good cheap capsules from the Baby Factory. They rent out capsules 3 times then sell them for $75. And they are checked quite thoroughly before they are sold. Also I think Nappies for Less sell them new for $80 but I'm not 100% on that. Just for those who have to stick to that budget...like me

One thing to keep in mind when getting a capsule for your first baby is how many children are you going to have? You may be better buying an ex rental from Baby Factory for $75 and then at least you own it....and will have one for when baby 2 comes along (and one less expense as you will not need to hire one again).
Also, I really recommend hiring the Snap n Go wheels...I use them all the time. Certainly saves having to carry the capsule around everywhere.

hey Aimee, I'm pretty sure the Baby factory rents car seats. The one in Palmy definitely rents capsules, not sure about regular car seats but I'd suspect so.

So did I. But I found it was a pain having to get her in and out of the seat if she was asleep. Will definitely do the capsule thing next time.
