Went to midwives today and they weighed me. I was so shocked to hear that I have already put on 6 kilos and I am only 9 weeks pregnant. I ve been eating quite healthy so I dont know why. They didnt seem too concerned cos they didnt tell me to watch what I ate or anything.

I also thought I was 10.5 weeks pregnant until the midwife told me that I need to go by acutal scan date which only makes me 9 weeks. Ive been looking at pics etc of what baby looks like and now it doesnt look like the pics ive been looking at. I was also happy before cos I was getting closer to 12 -13 weeks. The safe zone. Now its gonna take longer. sob sob.

Anyway I suppose i gotta be patient.

Have a good weekend everyone

OH Kellie, i can understand that you are disappointed, hugs coming your way.

In regards to the weight issue, don't worry about it, everybodies body is different and we all put on weight at different rates. If your midwife hasn't told you to watch what you are eating or anything then i dont think there is anything to worry about, im sure they will tell you if there was.

As for the actually date of being due, i had that also, by my calculations i am actually due 14th April but my scan says 22nd April, so i was a couple of weeks out myself, just think its longer you get to marvel at the wonder of having a little mircle growing inside of you.

Also re: the 12 week thing - once you have seen the heartbeat on ultrasound your risk of miscarriage is less than 5 %.

The weight thing is quite funny (in my case it was) - only put on "baby" weight during my whole pregnancy and the 2 months after I had arna i went back to my original size ... until laziness set in!! Some people put on 10 - 20kgs and lose it straight away and some people put on 10kgs and lose it or keep it... As Kazzle said - everyone is different
Good Luck

Ana, my ex-GP (in Hamilton) told me these statistics after I started bleeding and bled for 3 weeks straight, right after we found out I was pregnant with Josiah. He used to be a delivering GP. He said that 25% of women bleed during pregnancy; if you see a heartbeat after 6 weeks the chance of miscarriage is less than 5%; and a visiable/audible heartbeat after 12 weeks means that the chance of miscarriage is less than 3%.

argh! that must be annoying being behind what you thought, due date wise..... i have scan on friday and am nervous i will hear the same....
as for your weight gain... i have heard that it is normal to gain 1-2 kg first trimester, but i gained about 6 kg in my first pregnancy first trimester... everyone is different. this time i havent gained much at all... proberly 1 kg but i have been really sick this time.
dont stress to much about that either.... again easier said than done! unless your midwife is concerned later on, just keep eating healthy and walking or something.... some of that weight may even be water weight/bloating etc... im no expert though! hope you enjoy your pregnancy!
**HUGS**

you are pregant and that is beautiful!

Thnx Mum2emj,

it helps to get words of encouragement. I am eating much more healthier now and swimming. so hopefully the only weight that I gain now will be mainly baby.

Thanks again

Take care,

Cya

I wouldn't worry. I put on 8kg by the time I had my first midwife appointment, and haven't weighed myself since - my midwife isn't at all concerned. As long as you exercise and eat well, you shouldn't place too much importance on the numbers on the scale. Besides, the breakdown of the weight you put on by 40 weeks:

3.5KG is about how much the baby will weigh by the end of pregnancy
1KG is how much the placenta weighs
2KG is attributed to increased fluid volume
1KG is the weight of the uterus
1KG is the weight of breast tissue
2KG is because of increased blood volume
3KG is attributed to maternal stores of nutrients and muscle development
1KG for the amniotic fluid

TOTAL: 14.5KG (average)
