If my memory is working properly (not a given these days!) Lemsip is fine... it might tell you on the pack as well... check with a chemist for what you can and can't take as far as other cold and flu remedies go.

I had an awful cold when I was pregnant with my daughter. I can't remember if I took lemsip or not but my husband made me lots of fresh lemon and honey drinks which were great for clearing the sinuses and helping get to sleep. Maybe try them if lemsip is a no-no?

I used fresh lemon and honey too as I was a bit nervous with Paracetamol (I think it was?) in the lemsip

I would imagine lemsip is fine, as paracetomol is fine during pregnancy. ( well, i'm pretty sure anyway)

Yep, Panadol is safe during pregnancy as long as you stick to the correct dosage. Antihistamines and Ibuprofen are big no-no's tho, so if it gets worse and you need more than Panadol you should probably see your doc for some suggestions (the consult will be free as it is indirectly preg related).

Isn't there a difference between Panadol and Paracetamol?

Nope, Paracetamol is the medicine, Panadol is the brand name. Kind of like lemonade is the drink and Sprite is the brand name. There are lots of generic brands of paracetamol too - Pams, Signature Range etc.

But Panafen (made by Panadol), Panadeine and PanadolExtra aren't safe as one contains ibuprofen and the other contains codeine/caffeine etc.

I dunno if Lemsip is OK (I guess it is!) but don't take paracetamol with it, as it's already got paracetamol in it. Also, the vitamin C in it is worth jack-all, as heat kills vit C really quickly. That fresh-squeezed OJ from the shop chiller ROCKS for it though! It just doesn't soothe like a nice steaming hot drink.

I've only just got over that nasty cold that was going around (turned into a chest infection) and I didn't take anything at all. Our whole household had it (hubby, mum and dad, sis and fiance) and they must have all bought shares in Lemsip they were taking so much LOL. All had it for as long as I did - two weeks and same symptoms. Just goes to show how good that stuff is afterall

I ended up with a chest infection last time around and got put on ventolin by the doctor - apparently they used to use it in the way old days to stop premature labour and contractions.
Dropping a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil or vicks into a tub of hot water and putting your head near it (inhalations) helped clear the nose a little.
