Topic: Calling all crafty mamas! Posted: 08 January 2008 at 8:23pm |
One of my new year's resolutions is to sew and quilt more, since I love doing it but rarely make time. I've got the sewing machine out and a big pile of UFOs awaits me, so I thought I'd procrastinate a bit more and find out what the rest of you do, craft-wise. I know nikkiwhyte is a knitter-natterer and sewer, so hopefully she'll jump in here and share some of her projects, but what does everyone else have on the go? I want to see photos!

Cross-stitcher and Scrapbooker, but haven't done either in the last 12 weeks . I really want to get caught up on some things around the house - like seeing the bottom of the washing basket and getting the spare room sorted so Blair can move across the hall in a couple of months so will tidy up all my stuff then and get back into it

Oooo, tomorrow I'll figure out some pics of things in progress.
I try my best to finish stuff (as I have the attention span of a small child) so I don't have a lot of stuff on the go - except for knitting.
Actually, I lie... I have a whole lot of abandoned projects that clearly took longer than Hannah's afternoon sleep. This may just be the motivation I need to finish them!!
Next quest is to get into making funky cushion covers.

Instead of a photo of a work-in-progress, I'll show the longies I am making in the next size up... I'm just at the legs now.

I knit also (working on a new born size jumper at the moment - no we don't have anything to announce just a cute project and I wanted to do!). Also do cross stitch and the occassional sewing. Oh and scrapbooking. I Think that's it.

I sew and scrapbook. Need to get onto my scrapbooking actually, before I fall too far behind with DD's pics!

Well lets see I have the following projects all in a state of unfinishedness.
1 x winnie the pooh cross stitch brought in 1999 when I was living in Scotland.
1 x scarf half knitted started in 2003
oh and the 1 x quilted baby blanket which i even brought the sewing machine for back in 2005.
So yeah while I love starting craft projects, I'm terrible at finishing them.
The only thing I manage to make and finish is my baking.

I enjoy sewing and cross stitch but haven't done either in ages.
I designed and made a dress for Michaela's 1st birthday (in Stuart tartan) and my hubby and I made her a really cool cake which I'm so proud of, I'll attach pics as soon as I find them.
I have heaps more Stuart tartan fabric left so I'm planning on making her another dress soon (I've being saying that for about 9 months now).

Nikki, I looooooooove those longies! One of my mates knits for Emma Rose, but she's moved to Dublin, so we get knitty parcels every six months or so. The last one was a gorgeous rose-pink shrug. I wonder if there's a nice way to ask for some longies? Probably not. LOL. I am just grateful for whatever she gets!
I'm currently incubating the pattern for a baby quilt for some friends in Japan. The baby is due in February and it's not a difficult quilt to make, but getting started is so hard! I want to start a crafty blog for myself like Nikki's but I'm not sure how motivated I am... or who would read it. Hmm...

Katherine, you should definitely start a blog to inspire the rest of us (or at least me anyway!)
Look, I just found the pics of the dress and cake which I'm so proud of.

Wow that cake is impressive!!!!!!!!
I'm a sewer (funny that lol).. I use to do cross stitch but really can't be bothered with it anymore.
I've done lots of painting (did some for Daniels room) but I'm not overly artistic either.
My MIL annoys me with how good she is at knitting because I totally suck at it! She can just look at something and then knit it perfectly, no pattern whatsoever even if it is really complex she can copy off a photo or something.

My mum-in-law is really good at knitting too. She's had 8 children and 19 grandchildren so far so lots of practice at it. She whips up a new jersey or cardi in a few days so I don't even try.
I love those longies, might have to ask her to make some for Michaela (I have no qualms asking for stuff, she'll just tell me to bugger off if she doesn't want to - lol).

Ooo, some cool stuff here! You girls have inspired me to go home tonight and get back to finishing some of my projects!
I cross-stitch (and design my own patterns/designs), knit (clothes and small dolls/toys), sketch and have been looking at getting into scrapbooking lately too... oh and I enjoy other projects like card/invite making and what the centre pieces I did for the tables at my wedding.
Guess you could say I'm fairly ecclectic!

Oooh, inspiration. Now, if I could just get this presentation and handout finished I could get on with some handcrafts. Pre children I used to knit, X-stitch and do a little scrapbooking, now I knit occasionally. Currently work, kids and study keep me busy....but come May when the course ends and Cam starts school....ooh, Spotlight, here I come!!!
