Topic: Trade me carseats??? Posted: 13 January 2008 at 12:45pm |
What does everyone think about buying carseats off trade me?? I have been looking for a spare car/booster seat for Alex for my mums car. I don't really want to spend heaps as it wont get used that much. I was going to buy a second hand seat on trademe, but there are brand new seats on there for about $140 which look good. (one brand is babysafe and one is super nanny). Has anyone tried either? Do you trust buying off trade me. I have read the articles that warn you about buying seats as they may not meet safetly standards in NZ. The seats I looked at claim to meet the safety standards. Both seats look very very similar to my phil and teds booster and are $100 cheaper. So what do you think?

i got a brand nwe booster from farmers for $79-95, HOWEVER I think it may be a little too old for your little one. I would extremely wary. you have no way of knowing if the car seat has been in an accident - and has some stress, But if they are brand new - and in the packaging - well may be okay. have you thought about renting one though? may work out cheaper (i have no idea really), and do try farmers as they are reasonable for bransd new seats. for $140 you could possibly pick one up that you KNOW is new. Also, in Gisborne we had a car seat scheme where ACC subsidises car seats - does your area have one?

I wouldn't, the price might be appealing but you don't know the background with a second hand car seat. I'd even be wary about getting one marked new...tbh I'd be a lot more comfortable being able to go in and choose my own.

My mum did think about renting one. I thought I may as well buy one seeing as both kids will use it. Yeah I'm a bit weary of buying one. Would feel a lot happier knowing it was from farmers or somewhere I actually know. I guess I should follow my gut instinct!! Thanks guys!!

As Paws said you just don't know the history of it and if it has been in a crash or not. It may be safe, it may not be. I'd rather get a cheaper one on special brand new, than one of Trade Me.
