Topic: Sleep Rant/Vent Posted: 20 January 2008 at 12:34am |
Ok so today it got to 7.30pm and I could not keep my eyes open. I was so very tired. I went to bed and what do you know, the neighbour (who has just bought the townhouse through the wall from us) starts working on their kitchen and bathroom. They are not doing anything on it during the day, they just start at about 6pm or later each night. The banging etc is so loud I can't sleep. I try earplugs but can still hear. By 10pm I'm getting very upset as I'm so tired I'm dizzy and my head is throbbing. DH askes them to stop and they do which is good. By this time my body has gone into hyper-alert mode. At 11pm I drop off and the neighbours friends arrive for a loud tour of the outside of our house. 11.45 and Elle wakes to begin her hours and hours of taking and squealing (happy) that she does every single night that no-one can help us solve.
5 hours after trying to go to sleep I give up and come on here. Not wise to stare at a bright screen but otherwise I'll just sit and cry from exhaustion.
I've had insomnia for 14mths but was starting to get better and then all this happens. I'm so tired but thanks to neighbours, my child, and a noisey cat who wakes me crying every single night without fail there's nothing I can do about it!
I wish there was a solution to Elle playing in the night but all various sources tell me is that it may continue for years.
Sorry to rant :(

Well I can't offer much other than big hugs and the suggestion that surely your lawns need mowing around 6.00am in the morning . Sodding neighbours!!!
I hope you got some sleep in the end!!
When I have trouble sleeping there is a natural sleep remedy I use...Avena Comp - available from Health shops...you'd probably want to check that it is fine during pregnancy but works a treat for me!

Thanks Paws. Sadly, just before getting pregnant I spent well over $100 on various sleep remedies and now can't take any! I can sleep if Elle is quiet but last night for e.g. she was awake from 11.30 to 2.30am

Aw, that is awful! I had insomnia begfore getting pregnant but so far the breast feeding is helping with hormones for sleep, long may it continue.
Is there no other room in the house you can sleep in?
Or what about a family member just for one decent nights sleep? Maybe leave Dh and Elle at your house and crash somewhere else so that you can make up some deficit. I think they say you can make it up with only a couple of decent sleeps.
Hugs!

Big hugs hun I have suffered insomnia my whole life and know how frustrating it can be but in your case you have noisy neighbours and Oprah in the making talking and laughing half the night, im not surprised you are feeling as sad/mad/tired as you are!
Is there anywhere you could stay for a night while leaving DH and Elle for the night just for some time out and uninterrupted sleep?
LOL Paws at mowing the lawns at midnight

Our house is small so I can hear her from anywhere but we are moving YAY! as soon as we get A into G and get the house on the market so I'll be hoping for a bigger house. Might start collecting egg cartons and putting them on her walls
This morning we went to church as usual but Miss Madam wouldn't tolerate creche and after 30mins of screaming I gave up and paced around the block with her until DH had finished at church. Boy she is a determined wee lass.

Is there anything that can help up you relax so you can fall asleep despite the distractions? A nice warm shower, a cup of tea/chocolate, a silly Monopoly game on my cellphone do the trick for me. If not I either read the accounting standards or watch DH welding DVD - and I'm asleep in 5 min flat!
