I have just found out that my scan is going to cost $220 and that because the doctor hasnt written on the form, they will not check on baby, and if it was on the form i would be charged separately for both scans.
$220 for a 5min scan is a damned rip off if you ask me, i am hoping whoever is doing the scan will let us have a quick look without it being copied onto file. fingers crossed.
I am also sad because its my birthday tomorrow and my husband is going away tomorrow morning until thursday night with a work conference so we were going to celebrate on saturday by going out for dinner but now because of the cost of the scan we can't afford to do that now. grrrrr oh well sh*te happens i suppose, but sometimes i just wish it didn't always have to happen just as we we are getting ahead.

happy birthday to you Tania, i hope you still have a good day evening though hubby will be away.
I rang my hubby and we decided not to get the scan for bubs put on the form, and we will just wait, and i rang our medical insurance and to my relief i can claim back the whole cost of the scan, (but not the pregnancy scan).

so with that, because it only takes about 10days to get the money back, my hubby has said that he is taking me out for dinner anyway and i am not to say anything except thankyou...lol

I do love my hubby so, and have even brought him a valentines card and a box of chocolates that i will sneak into his bag tomorrow morning so that when he unpacks tomorrow night he will find it. LOL I am such a romantic at heart.

Aww Kazzle, I love your idea of sneaking a pressie into your hubbys bag on YOUR birthday! haha (Even if it IS Valentines Day).
Let us know if it all goes to plan and you get an excited phone call from your husband saying he found your gift!

Thank goodness you can claim back on the scan cost!!

   lol mama_wendz,
yeap when i spoke to Kent last night he was just unpacking his bag, when he found the box of chocolates and the card that told him how much i loved him, apparently his roommates took the card off him, intending to hassle him about it, then they read the card, and gave it back to him and said that they wished they were as lucky as he was to have someone who cared so much about him and was not afraid to show it.

then they all proceeded to eat the chocolates,

He sounds really lovely. :) Worthy of pressies and you to spoil him. :)      .....Why did you have to pay for your scan? I understand that if your LMC hasn't sent you for one then you'll need to pay but if they have then it should be free. If it's not shop around. In Auckland, the place by North Shore Hospital costs $190 for the 4d scan, even with the LMC refurral and Auckland Xray services on Dominion Rd do the same thing for free. Shop around via phone first.

The scan was for checking gallstones not for checking baby, so thats why it cost so much, and in the end it was only $171 which is still too much if you ask me.

what!!?? that's such a rip off!
i had to have a scan for ovarian cysts and it was free. wonder why there is so much of a difference when the process of a scan is the same? |

i think the reason it cost me is because i have medical insurance so i wasn't sent to the hospital to have a scan i was sent to pacific radiology, and because my doctor knows i have medical insurance via kents work it always cost me to have any tests done...so that is probaby why.

Also, if the scan is pregnancy-related, it is subsidised by the govt Maternity Benefits scheme, whereas other scans aren't. I had to have a kidney scan when I was preg with Maya, but my GP listed it as pregnancy related (was only partly preg-related, I had ongoing probs before then) so I only had to pay the $25 gap fee.
