My back has had issues since I was preggers. I had horrible back pain right through the last trimester. Now it's back but it's worse.
I'm not sure what I've done to it..
If I divide my back into quarters the whole bottom right hand side is just so sore. When I bend to pick Daniel up out of his cot (especially in the morning) I feel like I'm going to snap.
I don't think I've put anything out, it's probably a pulled muscle or something??
Any ideas on how I can help it? I've lived with it being this bad for about 10 days now but I've had enough. DH massages it for me which helps for like an hour but then its horrible again. I can't sleep properly because it hurts and I can't get comfy, so I'm a tired grump. And looking after Daniel is hard because he's a heavy lil fulla.

I would see your doc, tell them you did it picking up Daniel and get some physio or such like on the ACC, is normally completely free. The doc might give you some pain killers to help when it is really bad as well, I was prescribed some awesome ones when I hurt my back at work.

I found an Osteopath to be much more beneficial when I damaged my back ( prolapsed disc & sciatica). They're covered by ACC also, well $30 instead of $60.
Find yourself a good sports massage person to go to too.
And deffo tell the doc it was picking up Daniel for the ACC as it really stinks that pregnancy related injuries aren't covered.
I would try for an anti-inflammatory type of pain killer if the normal ones don't work. Voltarin and Mersyndol were my saviours.
Also either a hot or cold pack, depending on which gives you more relief. I much preferred the heat pack.

Or a chiropractor...I have a long standing history of back pain (I have a severe sway back) and have found the chiropractor to be the best option for me. And if as you say, it is a result of an injury, ACC cover up to a certain amount of physio/chiro appointments. Back pain should never be ignored as it doesn't tend to ever go away until something is done.

I didn't have a good experience with an osteo with Daniel so I'm reluctant to go that way.
I've made an appt with DH's chiro for tomorrow morn, so will see what he says and go from there.
My GP is on holiday at the mo and I don't really like the other doctor that's there so I'm not gonna go pay money to see an idiot I don't like lol.

Not that I have anything against the medical fraternity, but they seem to frown upon chiro/osteo (the physios tend to aswell). I sort of feel like you need to go with what works for you. I tried physio but it didn't help me at all and the physio poo-pooed going to the chiro, but thats the only time I get relief . When you go to the chiro, try to be as relaxed as possible to help with the adjustments...it tends to be harder for the chiro to adjust you when your muscles are all tense! Hopefully it will work for you, but if not, try the next thing.
And BTW, meds are only a quick fix, and don't treat the real problem

I know meds are only a quick fix.. which is why I haven't gone near them.
But I do know a very good physio who is off lecturing in the states at the moment. He gets back in a week I think though so I can ask him what he thinks if the chiro doesn't help too much as he owes me one for hooking him up with one of my best girl friends hehe

I stuffed mine up recently putting Jack in his cot, I ended up at physio who gave me some great exercises and took some muscle relaxents just to help me through the day at work and to help me sleep as I was waking up just to roll over.
Many women post pregnancy end up with some form of back injury, and we tend not to do anything about it and suffer through it, but is much better to get sorted early!

Let me know if you need a hand with Daniel, he can always come and hang out at our place for an hour or so.
But ouchies all right.

Gentle exercise. It's free, and it's made my back pain completely disappear since losing my weight. I know it's the least thing that you want to do when your back aches, but it seriously helps.

Not entirely true. The best treatment for muscular injuries is to get the muscles moving again instead of the spasming which causes the pain. Anti-inflammatories like diclofenac (voltaren) help to lessen the spasmig and inflammation, and the pain, to make getting the muscles moving easier. Even in injuries which involve joints, most of the pain comes from the muscles supporting the joints spasming and until the muscles are sorted the joints can't be fixed either.

Stacey most of the physios in Palmy give free treatments for ACC you need to pin it down to a certain date to claim.
Chiro wont work without massage/physio ditto what Emma said if you don't work the muscles the joints are going to move.
Exercises in the pool are good for your back.

I have been doing gentle exercise etc but its definitely not helping.. and besides I don't actually know what my problem is, whether its muscle, joint, nerve, or whatever.
Therefore I'm going to see what the chiro says, I'm gonna ask mark the physio what he recommends and go from there.

That's what the physio is trained to do. If exercises and stretches don't help they'll probably refer you for a scan and/or xray to see if it joint.
