So, think i have mastitis. Was all achy this morning - decided it was from sleeping strangely, and tehn found a sore lumpy bit in my breast. Had decided it was from jake kicking me (lovely child), but am now thinking it may be mastitis as I have a kinda rash too.

I know i should bite the bullet and go to the doctor, but any natural remedies i could try first>???

I had a mild dose of Mastitis and all I had to do was feed baby heaps and I massaged the lump and expressed heaps and it eventually went away. However keep a close eye on it, as it can cause a lot of problems, I think it was emma? maybe who ended up in hospital because of mastitis. Godd luck it's not all that pleasant.

Hot shower, massage lump towards the nipple whenever you feed.. feed on that side first for each feeding for one min (then switch to other breast if time to feed on that side). Take 1000mg tablet of vitamin c each day.
A wheat pack or hot water bottle on the lump helps too.. any heat.. I slept with one when I had mastitis.

I had it 4 times, it was awful. It developed into the full blown flu like symptoms the first 2 times as well :( but the 3rd and 4th i knew what to do and got rid of the lump in a day or two.. if it gets really bad go and get antibiotics to get rid of it, don't risk it getting any worse like I did.

Poor you, I hope it goes away soon. Mastitis sucks!

woke up this morning feeling like someone has stuffed cotton wool in my head. Not sure if it's from mastitis or lack of sleep, either way am off to the doctors today as read online about it developing into abscesses and operations.

Good luck! If you hadn't already said you were going to the doc I would be giving you a big lecture about it right about now. Don't mess with mastitis!

I woke up feeling a bit yucky and with a red lump in one breast, by lunchtime I had a fever of 39.9 and by 3pm I was hallucinating. And that's despite my midwife faxing a prescription thru and getting antibiotics straight away.

Ended up with 9 days in hospital (yes I know you all know this story, I am a broken record lol ). I don't know if I could have avoided it in any way, but I know for sure that next time I will be going to my doc/midwife the very second I even IMAGINE something is not right!

Good luck at the docs Liz. I hope it's not mastitis!

Glad to hear you're feeling better Liz...

"Yay drugs"? Does this mean you're going to tell everyone to drug up like Nikki does? Hehehe...

hehehehehehehe Becca
Geez, I'd not even known about drugs until they gave me the stuff at hospital on Monday. Was high as a kite but couldn't feel anything. Managed to talk through the whole procedure but have no idea what I said.
If only they had those sort of things during labour!! (Not so sure it'd be good for baby tho )

Sounds like me when I had all my wisdom teeth out, Nikki. Not that you can talk that much at the dentists, but you know what I mean!
