Topic: Chubby Bubbies Posted: 22 February 2006 at 6:58pm |
How much did your babies weigh at 4 months? Its just that Hannah got weighed today and was 17lb 1oz (7.73kg) and a lot of people seem to comment on her size. I know she is still within the healthy weight chart but all my friends have skinny kids so I need a bit of reassurance.

Jakey was 7.9 kgs. It slows down a bit after 6 months I think. He's just over 10kg (at a guess) now. Chubby bubbys are nice a cuddly, and proof that your milks good drinkin'!!! (no offence to mums of littlies..)

Hey aimee i wouldnt even worry about it. All bubs are diff. I have proof . Keegs is a little wee thing and at nearly 2.5yrs old weighs in at around 10.5 kg while his brother is is around the 13-13.5 kg mark and they are twins!!!
Lso when Hannah gets more active she may lose some of the chubbie bubby look - jaidyn did but i only noticed it when i looked back on their baby pics
Would love to give you a witty comeback for all those ppl who feel the need to comment but brain is too tired!! However if I come up with one I shall post on here for you lol

also my nana whose had 7 kids lived by the rule (I think it was what they all did in the day lol) that by 6mths a baby should have doubled its birth weight and by 1year they should have tripled their birth weight

I can't remember if I had Arna when I dropped that stuff off to you or if she got out of the car!! But she has had a "pot" belly all her life and everyone notices it! I just turn around and say she's well fed!! Also "chubby" babies are healthy babies to me - for the fact if they get sick and don't eat for a week or so (like Arna last week) - they have the fat there to live off, where "skinny" babies would be in hospital
There is always a up side to a "down" side!! Will try and hunt out Arna's plunket book and see what her weight was like. At the moment she is in the 75% range but is also there for her height.

Jake quadrupled his weight. He is almost 14kg now at 16months. He was pretty hefty all through his babyhood. And was always in the top percentages for weight, however, he isn't fat at all, and actually is very active, so I think, like most of those weight charts - it's a guide only, not something to stress out about.

Aimee, Xanda got weighed last week when he was 11wks old and he was 15lb 4oz (6.92kgs) and to me he looks healthy. He is in the 75th percentile range in his plunket book for both his weight and length. He has very chubby cheeks but i think they look really cute. You really have nothing to worry about, and like Marlene mentioned she may lose some of that look once she becomes a little more active.

My first boy was very chubby and people always used to comment, I say take it as a compliment, Hannah is obviously healthy and happy! On the other hand Jayden and abby were quite skinny and people used used to always comment on that and you always wonder if there is a sinuation that they are underfed. Enjoy it and try not to let it bother you. My neice was so so chubby as a baby she had rolls on her fat rolls, and now as an 11 year old she is as skinny as. So weight as a baby has no bearing on whether they will be a big child or not.

They definitely thin out when they get taller... and then get fat again. It seems babes grow out and then up, playing catch-up.
Han is a bit of a fatty too but I can't remember how much. She's been following the 75% line all her life.

Shoosh Ana. You are tiny now. I thought you were beautiful before you got skinnier We can both go on a weight-gain diet together!
