I have a six week old baby who wants to be held constantly. She feeds well and thankfully sleeps well at night (I really hope that stays the same!) but during the day every time I put her down she doesn't just cry, she roars. I feel like somethings upsetting her so i took her to the specialist dr and he thought she might have silent reflux so is treating her for that. It's not helping and the only times she isn't crying is when she's either feeding or when I'm holding her. (She crys if anyone else holds her). My front pack is my saving grace but I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm getting a tad exhausted.

Huge hugs to you!! My DD was diagnosed with silent reflux and its bloody tough!! What meds is she on?? and how long for??
It sounds as if she only wants to be comforted, my DD was the same, she is on meds and is improving but sometimes she just wants to be held. There is no harm in it but you do need to take some time out for yourself, it can be very tiring!
Also just a thought, do you wrap her up!? She might just want to be wrapped, could try doing this!

Do you have a bouncer/rocker she can go in, if she has silent reflux it will be more comfortable for her to lie on a 30deg angle instead of flat

I would suggest a rocker too - maybe one of those that vibrates as well. Hope it gets sorted soon for you as it sounds very tiring

Thanks! The meds she is on are omeprazole (2mls twice a day.) Im not even entirely convinced that it's reflux. She is formula fed so I've tried changing her formula but that's not helping either. I think the hardest thing about being a new mum is that everything is guesswork. I don't like giving her meds just incase it might be reflux or whatever else but I guess there is no other option. Poor wee girl, I hate seeing her so uncomfortable.

Go onto the Crying over spilt milk website and it will give you the symptoms of reflux, it will give you an idea as to whether or not it is!
How is she on the formula, what type are you using?

We have a vibrating rocker too but she doesn't like it at the moment. Hopefully she'll grow into liking it because it was expensive. One of those impulse purchases that I thought would be wonderful for her!!! Maybe she's too young. She is little.

Big hugs! I had two 'high maintenance' babies and very little patience so the first few weeks in our house were a nightmare!
I found Mercedes really liked the battery swing from about 6 weeks, she would nap in it when she wouldn't nap anywhere else. You can hire them from toy hire places or maybe even Plunket.
I also found the sling a godsend with Sienna, Mercedes hated it but Sienna would sleep in it fairly well.
Other than that it was just a case of living thru it. At the time it feels like the end of the world, but in hindsight it does pass relatively quickly. Mercedes is still a clingy 'Mummy's girl' but overall pretty placid and settled and Sienna is gorgeous. I can barely even remember those first few awful weeks, they seem like a bad dream.

I am feeding her breast first but unfortunately I can't produce much so I give her 100 mls of formula to top up. At the moment I'm trying Heinzes nuture for newborns. We have also tried S26 (she didn't seem to want to drink it but when she did it didn't make any dfference), we've also tried karicare gold. We are also adding a bit of sugar once a day under medical advice as she tends to get a bit constipated. Any ideas?

You could try Novalac, that's formulated to help with constipation.

We have DD on Karicare AR, for the reflux and she takes it no problem and has no problems with her bowel moevements! We sometimes get 2 dirty nappies a day!!
I just read your topic about which formula, I would suggest that you do as the others say, trial and error.
How long has she been taken the meds? They say it can take a few weeks for them to be effective.
