Topic: Name question Posted: 06 February 2008 at 5:47pm |
It's super early to even be discussing this, but being the control freak that I am, I have been thinking about it. DH and I hit stumbling blocks today, so I want to get some other opinions.
I really want to use the name Jasmine as a middle name for a girl. Jasmine was a very close friend of mine who recently passed away from cancer. She was my bridesmaid and really special to me, so I'd like to use her name. But only as a middle name, as I don't want to take away from who she was.
Anyway, DH's and my favourite names don't seem to go well with it.
Katelyn Jasmine or
Jessica Jasmine
Do you think they sound silly? The first I am unsure of as it's kind of "in in" as in Katel"in" Jasm"in"...
The other I am unsure of as it is JJ and think it might sound funny?
I really like Olivia Jasmine, but DH is pretty ho-hum on the name.
There's other names I like, that we don't agree on. And I can't use a two syllable name ending in "a" (as in Laura) as our last name has the same sound to it, even though it ends "er".
Boys names are a lot easier, and we're not limited by wanting one particular name. Not concerned about finding a boys name I like.
Opinions grately appreciated!! Sorry for the rambling!!

I like Olivia Jasmine. Maybe your DH will come round ...
On the first two picks - I think either is ok, because once you get used to a name it won't sound funny. But I do like Olivia Jasmine the best. I'd work on that one.

I know how you feel, most of the names i liked ended in the 'a' sound and was thinking it was going to be a bit of a mouthful,
I think the names you have chose are really pretty.

Olivia Jasmine is a beautiful name. My DH came around with Joshua and I got that.

I actually quite like Katelyn Jasmine, I think it sounds fine. Olivia is lovely too. I thought our daughter's middle name sounded funny with her first to begin with, but wanted to use it for family reasons, and it has really grown on us. So see how it goes and say it to yourself for a while, it might grow on you. You've got a bit of time to make that final decision anyway!

OMG Laurie, I didn't realise you were pregnant - Congratulations!!! It's been a bit hectic so I haven't had a chance to browse the site properly.
I LOOOVVEEE Olivia as a name I see what you mean with Katelyn - the 'in' 'in' doesn't roll off the tongue but it's something that you would get used to and it wouldn't even be an issue later. I think I prefer Katelyn over Jessica.
Funny how you like Olivia Jasmine - we named our daughter Olivia but Jasmine was 2nd on my list of names as well. I love it.

I like Katelyn Jasmine.
I wouldnt worry about the middle name "in" "in" rhyming thing.
Like others have said, you notice these kinds of things when picking a name but once the little baby is here you dont notice it at all and things that didnt seem right in the first place grow on you. (I'm now waffling and not making much sense!)

I think they are all lovely names. As Jasmine is a middle name, I don't think it matters about the JJ or 'in in' sound. It's more important that the first and last names go well together, as those are the names she'll be known by.

To be honest with you, it's a middle name, most of the time it wont even get mentioned. Personally i like the Katelin but thats only me.....
You have alot of time to decide, just write down all the ones you like and eliminate from there.

Thanks guys!
You're right, we should just go with what we like. Middle name would hardly be used anyway.
I am not stressing about it, it was more a passing conversation today but made me think... uh oh! We have conflict!!
Thinking about names is fun though - I am probably going to do a lot of that over the coming months!

You could always have Katelyn (first middle name) Jasmine? I like it anyway.

i like the olivia jasmine.
have you thought of using jasmine as a first name?
one of many names i had picked was Jasmine Veda (Vay-da) but could be Veda Jasmine. I agree with the in-in thing and yeah i think with the 2nd idea baby would definately end up being called JJ, so up to you as to if you want her name always shortened to that or not.

I think Katelyn Jasmine is okay so long as your last name goes well after that. What about Katelyn Olivia Jasmine? That's quite pretty. We had to give Briona an extra middle name so she wouldn't be B.R.A
Huge congrats to you tho Laurie!! You've been waiting a long time!

Hmmm.... Katelyn Olivia Jasmine... I like that! But it is a very long name, which could get annoying. Our last name is Winter, so most things work well, except short names ending in a.
In the meantime DH and I have decided to call the little thing "Flicker" as a nickname. We were so enarmoured with seeing the beating heart and it made it seem so itsy and cute. Awwww.

I do like Katelyn Jasmine, it doesnt roll off the tongue but its still pretty. I think the best sounding combo is Olivia Jasmine though but as the others have said it doesnt really matter, your bubs will take on the name and it will be perfect because its hers. I like Katelyn Olivia Jasmine Winter too though, it could be the perfect compromise.
