Hey girls, hope everyone's day is going okay :)
Just a quick question - i'm DYING for a massage, and I wanted to know if anyones been for one of those pregnancy specific ones, cuz i'd like to know what they do and how they do it before I make the effort of finding someone in chch who does it! Also, I want to go for my regular facial, but seeing as it's bad to lay on my back for too long now (usually takes 90mins) what suggestions would you guys have for that? Would I get them to give me a pillow that puts me on a tilt, or have the bed lifted at the back so i'm not sitting, but not laying down completely.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

I had a facial when I was pregnant with Alex, and I ended up not enjoying it because I got so uncomfortable. Maybe try using pillows??

I do quite a lot of preg massage as I am a massage therapist, and it is done with you laying on your side with lots of pillows etc for support. Any questions let me know.

the massage chairs work really well for pregnancy massage too, as you are kinda sitting, and able to lean forward.

Just want to second what Red said, I'm also a massage therapist and do the pregnant women I see in the sidelying position. I use lots of pillows and towels as well!

I had a preggy massage last week - on the side with lots of pillows to support my bump, legs and shoulders. It was fantastic - I definitely recommend it. I was worried I would fall asleep but was determined not to as I was soooo looking forward to it (was a bit of a treat). I did find it a bit strange only having one side worked on at a time - it felt a little unbalanced especially after they did the first side and I was all relaxed on one side but all tense on the other. THen they went to the second side and the first side suddenly felt all tense in comparison - can't win.

lol thats typical isnt it :P

Okay so you massage therapists - what do you do in regards to what your client wears? Also, what do you do if your client has particular back problems (compressed discs etc) and cant move all that well? Thats the bit that i'm worried about - once I lay in one position for a certain amount of time, I find it extremely difficult to get up and move.

Depends what I am massaging, usually do back and shoulders, which yes you need to do one side at a time seeing are sidelying and some legs and arms if time or whatever they request, so usually I get them to just leave their knickers on. I use sheets for my preggy ladies so leave them to get undressed for a few mins and get them to hop under the sheet and lay on whatever side they prefer to start on and when I come back in I put pillows where needed. I check in with them to make sure that they are comfy during massage so if you aren't, make sure that you tell them and you can change position if needed. Do you usually have probs laying on your side?

Miss Angel, I'm in Rangiora, having trained in Chch, there are lots of therapists in Chch, here is a website which may help finding someone close to you:
http://massagetherapists.co.nz/

On left hand side of page is find a massage therapist.
If you can't find someone who suits let me know as I have friends who do preg massage.
Good luck
