Topic: ARGH! Female-populated workplaces Posted: 13 February 2008 at 4:53pm |
can i just say, argh, am getting rather annoyed at just how catty it can be working in a place with all females, namely some that like to think they are in charge, some that like to make you feel like you aren't doing your job or have no idea what you're doing, and just a few that like to stir things up a little and just can't let others feel ok about being there whenever they are on the same shift.... ggggggrrrrrrr.
sorry just a vent, but how can others make you so feel like you just don't want to be there?! there are some times that i really just know how a shift is going to be as soon as i walk in and see who else is on, mostly good, but there are a few people who i just can't seem to shake their annoying snide comments (towards everyone) and knowing what they're like behind other's backs makes me know what they're probably saying behind mine. ARGH!

Do you want to know something?
I work with all men, and they are just as catty.

Urgh it's disgusting, it seriously is, usually i kinda just think whatever, cos i know everyone else thinks the same of this/these people. However, on days like today when they bring things up at staff meetings that really don't actually need to be brought up and just make a fool out of people, myself and a couple of others, Well, I am just biding my time till they can retire, lol.... We'll see if i can last a decade or so.

OH NO a whole decade, that's a long time to wait.
Shame you can't arrange your shifts to always be the exact opposite of theirs.

I hate it when there is no testosterone in the unit to calm things down a bit, it's always easier to walk with the odd bloke nurse to settle down. Mind you in London the male nurses were the worse for bitching

I hear ya. I don't think I could handle having a female boss. I really enjoy working with men (LOL!!!). I find ALL men a bit much as they get so tied up in arguing details and miss the big picture. A mix is best.

I hear you Janine, encounter some pretty random stuff when I started at my job but being the up front person I am I went straight to the "source" and said "if you have something to say about my job, say it to my face not behind my back". I havent had a problem since

I have heard it is the same in almost every ward Janine. I was talking to my friend in 26 (I think) and she is having issues with a nurse on her ward that is technicly lower than her but is older than my friend and she thinks that she is the one in charge not my friend.

...In front of parents?!? Now that's just rude of her. She really should be pulled up by her boss for that... hang on, she's not the boss is she?! But really, it's not just embarrassing for you and plain mean, it puts the whole department in a bad light. She needs to go spend some time on the naughty chair.

LOL! That would incuur a slap in the face from me :P I cant work in mostly female environments. I dont get along with them at all. I remember working in an office and this b*tch was rude and said something about me being fat, so I pulled out the classic 'Yea, I may be fat but you're f*cken ugly and I can lose weight.' I remember the WHOLE floor laughing at her. Didnt see her again for a few days. I guess thats the advantage with me, im so damned blunt :P

I'm just trying to imagine what my HOUSE is going to be like with three hormonal teenage girls ( and maybe a fourth!) eek!
I'm lucky that the team here at OHbaby!, even tho we are all women, we are all reasonably mature (reasonably!) and there isn't really any bitchiness, we're more likely to spend a whole meeting chatting about nothing then realise we haven't got any work done lol.
Janine - it's not on dressing you down in front of parents, you should complain! That's unprofessional.

I have to admit that I am only 1 of 2 females in our area and we both head up our respective teams! I wouldn't have it any other way, I love the all male environment and could not imagine the idea of working with any more females (as I have in the past and yes, they were so catty).
The guys here aren't catty at all. Maybe I am just lucky!

And I agree with the other she should not be doing in front of parents if it were me as the parent I would feel very embarrassed if it was done in front of me
