Bella dosnt sleep very well during the day and maybe it is because she is getting overtired. I was thinking of trying the one hour turnaround but wondering if she is too old for this now and will end up having a crappy night time. At the moment I am getting 9hrs at night which I love and dont want to see disappear!

Topsy do you mean, one hour up, then put her to bed for a sleep?

No its just me with fuzzy brain!!

Well I am still doing one hour up with Lauren as she just gets way too tired if I keep her up any longer. Sometimes she will make it to an hour and half, but not very often, but then she only sleeps for just on an hour aswell for her naps during the day. During that one hour she is up, I do have pretty full on playtime with her though, doing lots of different things, lots of tummy time and then finish off with a short story or two, feed then bed for a sleep.

Lauren is sleeping from around 7:30-8pm till anywhere between 5 and 7am so her day sleeps are not affecting her great night sleeping. I think you would be alright, why don't you give it a go, you can always change it if it doesn't work! As they say, trial and error is pretty much my theory!!

Like Peachy, I still only keep Eva up for approx an hour from waking, unless we are out and about. We keep her up after 5pm and she's in bed for the night between 6.30-7pm. Unfortunately I still get up twice a night to feed her, but I don't think that's due to her sleeping during the daytime. I've heard that sleeping well during the day is supposed to improve nighttime sleeping.

Definitely not too old, Topsy...try it and see how you go. You may find it won't disrupt her night sleep at all, in fact she may sleep even better! I think Bella didn't stay up any longer than that until around 4 months and then by 5 months she could happily stay up for 2 hours and now she is down to two naps - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

I tried 45mins, 1hr, you name it and Ruby just refused to sleep. Her average now is 90mins and she has way less sleep at certain times of the day. I had someone from Plunketline tell me she should still be sleeping lots despite sleeping for 12hrs at night and to persevere with the 1hr turnaround but it was making both of us miserable. Now she is in her own routine, sometimes she is up for 2 hours at a time, but we are happy and that's what matters. I just reckon learn the cues when they are tired and don't clock-watch if your baby wants to do it's own thing (like stubborn Ruby!), it may work for some people but not for others.

I agree about the clock watching Porce. As soon as Lauren rubs her eyes or yawns, I pop her down for a sleep and she nods off straight away. If I leave it 15 mins she gets over tired and then it takes a while for her to settle!

It's quite strange as Ruby never used to rub her eyes, she started around 2 weeks ago. Now she does it I know that she is tired! It definately does help to put them down awake, for a few weeks I did the shhhhing and patting with her in the cot, leave, if she cries go back after 3 mins, do it again, if cries then 6 mins ..... now I can put her down awake and she will happily lie there til she goes to sleep now she is used to her cot and falling asleep there

I keep an eye on both B and the clock after his first feed of the day, and try to keep it to around about that 1hr to 1.5hr mark, but only because it's the only sleep I can just about guarantee I'll get out of him. The rest of the day I watch him and follow his cues.

I do the 1-hour turnaround, although Jack only has 1hour sleeps during the day. He's usually quite content to just lie in his bassinette and look around for the rest of the time. Didn't actually realise this until one day when I watched him! Cheeky monkey.

I think it helps to be really active during the 1-hour, Jack basically gets up, feeds, burps, gets changed if needed, goes for tummy time for about 15mins, then on his back and kicks his musical kickboard for 5mins usually (times vary depending on how grizzly he is), some jumping on the ground or mum (it's his favourite past-time), sometimes then a book or just some cuddles and singing, then bed. He sleeps 7.30pm-3.30am, then 4-7am, with another good 2 hour nap in the morning (best time for him to sleep) and his naps reduce as the day goes on.

I was told too to keep him up longer in the afternoons as he needs to be a bit more tired to sleep through the night. I'm yet to see if it works, but hopefully!

Topsy it sounds like Bella and my Anyssa are two peas in a pod with their feeding and sleeping hassles!

I found that once I stopped Anyssa snoozing and comfort sucking while she was feeding, then had a good active play time, it was easier to see her tired signs - and this is usually after an hour/ 1.5hrs of being up.

It also didn't help that I was sooo stressed out with her not sleeping, and that everytime I put her to bed I was so tense with the expectation of her crying that I'm sure she sensed it. Once I was able to relax and calmly put her to bed, and stroke her head until she relaxed things got much better.

She sleeps so much better in the day now. I really hope this works with Bella too.

Some babies don't rub eyes but ear tug instead - look for that too!

Phoenix is definitely a lil so-and-so when it comes to the 1 hour turnaround. During the day he simply won't do it. I do find he prefers to fall asleep on mummy or beside mummy on the big bed, but as soon as I move him, hes wide-eyed and alert. He is pretty good after his dream feed, easier too because it's alot darker.
