For those of you who had miscarriages, and then an early scan, how did you cope for the period between your early scan and then your 12 week scan.

For me, there's a whole 5 weeks in there, and another 3 weeks to go.

I was feeling really sick and icky, but the other day that suddenly stopped and I feel quite normal again. After two miscarriages I am naturally worried and over analysing everything. I keep wondering if something has gone wrong in there.

Any tips?

i was "lucky" (and i say that loosely) in that i was thru the recurrent miscarriage clinic in auck and they used to scan you every week from about 8 weeks till 12 as well as checking hcg levels... it can be hard and you have to try and remember that symptoms dont always mean anything... but yeah looking for signs every day that something had gone wrong or was all okay can really drive you nuts!!!

I've never had a miscarriage but have had bleeding with both pregnancies that was termed threatened miscarriage and it sucks. I'll back Deb and say symptoms don't always mean much - for most part I've been mainly symptom-less both times.
Can you get another scan in between? I'm sure if you went to your mw/GP and told them you were worried, they'll give you a slip for one.

Or could you get more bloods done to check the levels are still going up?
I was also thinking what Jess said about the heart beat. I have heard that too.
Big hugs.

I know, it's a long time. I had a scan at 6+3, nuchal scan is booked for 11+3 (two weeks time). Having had a mmc 'diagnosed' at 12 week scan these one's terrify me. I look for preggie symptoms every day.....my poor boobs have been poked so much to check they still hurt (hehe). It still feels so not real despite 24/7 nausea.
It'll get there soon enough Laurie, we're all in this together .

Laurie I had my early scan at 8 weeks and hcg bloods taken frequently until then I was lucky my ob gave me a quick scan at 11 weeks so it broke the 5 weeks waiting up I just kept thinking to myself that my hcg levels rose perfectly, saw bubs at 8 weeks and I was feeling so ill which I didnt have the time before that I just knew somehow that iw was ok

once you get to the second trimester the time goes quick that first trimester takes forever but 3 weeks isnt too long to go I also tried not to get fixated on how many weeks and days I was cause that seemed to make it go slower

maybe ask your mw if you can have another scan? thinking of you hun in hopeing the time flys oxoxo

How did I cope? Badly! With the gremlins at least! With this one I had an excuse as I had a weeks worth of bleeding.

With the gremlins I did the constant undie checking, poked my boobs so much I could never tell if they were sore from pregnancy or being poked, and panicked if I only threw up 5 times instead of 6 in a day. I had a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny speck of brown CM at 9 weeks and convinced myself I was m/c so managed to con the midwife into referring me for a scan for "bleeding". Seeing both gremlins (thats when we found out they were twins) bouncing around in so much detail that we could even see their cords was really reassuring and definitely helped me to cope thru to 12 weeks.

If you are really worried, I would say get another scan. It can't do any harm at all and if it reassures you then it's worth it IMO.

i was like Maya...I didn't cope really.. i also had missed m/c at 12 weeks..got early scan at 6 weeks..then spotting at 9 and got another scan and was basically terrified (even though i had no spotting with mc ) every day till 12 weeks...but it got a bit better after that and much better after 20 weeks.. but i was still worried.. so yeah in my case i just worried still but the extra scan helped!

Thanks for the comments. I guess I know that without another scan there's very little I can do. I doubt that they'd give me one without very good reason.

Emma, I am just like you - I wipe before and after peeing, poke my boobs just to see and read heaps into the sicky feeling. I feel a little sick again today, so that's reassuring.

I try not to worry - I haven't had any spotting or any serious pain, and I know that chances are greatly improved after seeing a heartbeat. But, seems you all know just how it is.

Why does this have to be so tiresome?!?

LOL - very good reason is open to interpretation, like I said I described the teeniest, tiniest brown spot as bleeding to get a scan

Hang in there, the stress does get easier the further on you get, altho I'd be lying if I said I didn't stress the whole way thru with the gremlins...

Hi,
I have had 1 m/c and also had twins at 23weeks, therefore both of them didnt make it.
I was terrified this time being pregnant, I was sure i was going to lose this one too. My advice is be strong, get an extra scan if you can, and most importantly know that if its meant to be, it will be. Take things easy, and even tho it is virtually impossible, try not to worry and be stressed about it. You hang in there chickie, and know that we are all here for you.
Thats what someone told me, and it did help me alot.
Take care.

Laurie - I'm in the same boat as you - although I haven't had my early scan yet. My scan for my missed m/c at 12w showed my baby had stopped growing at 8w5d. I couldve had my scan now at 7 weeks, but have decided to wait to almost 9 weeks (8w6d to be precise) because I just want to get over that hurdle, then only have a few weeks to wait til the next scan.
Hang in there chicky! lets help support and calm each other!!!

Here's hoping huh??? Gotta stay positive or I will go crazy!

Zacksmum, I was so sad to hear of the loss of your twins. I can't even begin to imagine what that would have been like. Thanks for your kind words.

its a hard time alright. I had a m/c prior to having a 7 week scan and had absolutely no symptoms of anything being wrong, I think it would have been around 5 wks that bubs stopped growing, so this time around I was so nervous at the 7 week scan, but it was okay. i was still nervous up until 13 weeks, but the obstetrician told me that as the 7 wk scan was okay the chances of m/c were greatly reduced. I worried anyway cos I never had any morning sickness or many preg symptoms at all.

I guess just try not to stress too much, which isn't much help I know, but if its going to m/c you can't do anything about it anyway. To be honest I will worry until the day this one comes out, now I just worry about lack of movements etc.

You can request an extra scan if you are really worried, it will cost you, but for your own piece of mind if you are really stressed then do it.
