Topic: Toenail Injury = Bad Mummy!!! Posted: 17 February 2008 at 10:51pm |
I cant believe I have injured my wee man....yesterday I was picking at the sharp little corner of one of his toenails, and next thing I know his whole toenail is in my hand! I didnt pull hard or anything, it just seemed to fall off!!! OMG I feel so awful, its all red, and although he doesnt seem to worried about it, I feel dreadful! Am sure the nail will grow back fine, but until it does it looks awful!
I have just been trying to put a little dettol cream on it every few hours to keep it from getting infected, but keep thinking I might have to take him to the Drs to get it checked!
<bangs head on table.....bad mummy, bad mummy>

Oh no!
It sounds like it upset you more than him though eh? And more like a freak accident than anything you did chick.
I'd just keep doing what you're doing, make sure it gets some air and sun too and only worry if it looks worse rather than better.
My mum tells me all sorts of horror stories that happened to us as kids and you know, I don't remember most of them even though she tells me how upset she was! I'm hoping it'll be the same for my kids with their mean mummy too!

Poor wee man :(
Don't feel bad. The first 3 times I tried to cut Sam's fingernails with the baby nail clippers I managed to cut the tip of the finger too. It would bleed for ages, but after the inital screaming didn't seem to emotionally scar her too badly
Scarred me worse than her - I have only recently got up the courage to start doing it again

I did something very similar recently, Charlottes toe nail was very long so I broke it off with my fingers. She is impossible to chop her toenails. End result was that it split up the middle and then broke off one side with the other side hanging off. Bled a little too. However, nothing that a plaster didn't fix (she is addicted to plasters!). And the toenail has grown back perfectly!
I felt bad but not as bad as when I cut the inside of her ear with my engagement ring. THAT made me feel terrible (and needless to say, I got a new ring - that one is in a box ready to be passed down to her at a later stage).

yep, same here. Cut Ava's finger when I was clipping her nails and it took me a while to pluck up the courage to do them again!! I still get tense when I do her nails. I tend to do them only when really necessary!!

I cut Maya's finger when I was cutting her nails and have ever since refused to cut baby's nails. People alwayws moan about how long my kids nails are but I'm still not recovered from the shock of hurting my baby and how much it bled. She was five weeks old, and she's now nearly 5

Ouchies, poor Ollie Big to you!! We've all been in the same boat by the sounds of it
Their toe nails grow randomly.. Keziah's are really flat and look ingrown and they grow really fast (much like her finger nails) I don't have a problem cutting her toe nails, but I DID however cut her finger with the nail clippers a few weeks ago and BOY did I feel bad.. and the tears from Keziah made it 10 times worse

Oh poor you! I keep a (mental) "bad mamma list" of all the terrible things I have done.
Anyssa has still got a black mark on her head where she bashed her head into my tooth. It hurt my tooth, so I can't imagine how it felt to her head. I keep telling her I can't anticipate her every move, but she doesn't seem to listen.

Their toes are so tiny, aren't they? I'm always afraid I'll cut the little one off!
Anyways big hugs - it gets easier (somewhat as even at 1 year, Gina wriggles madly while I try cutting them )
