A wee while ago I posted on here about my MIL who had bought some boot cleaner for her lime green boots and was sold black cleaner not clear. Long story short, she took them to court and won the cost of her boots back.
However, she still hasn't had her boots fixed, they are from Italy and she hasn't seen anything similar here. She decided to go into another store and try and see if they could dye them for her.
The store she went into was different from the original one but (unbeknown to her at the time) owned by the same person. The shop keeper was very nasty and refused to serve her "because his boss would get angry as he had been told not to serve her". This is despite the owner at court saying there were no hard feelings.
Is there any legal standing to discrimination about this?? MIL is very very upset, he was very nasty about the whole thing (and she can be quite sensitive).

I doubt it. In fact the owner could say one thing at court and then turn and even trespass her from his stores if he wanted to....
If he doesnt want her as a customer then that will be his prerogative
not fair and not nice though....especially if she was still ok enough to go to one of his stores again!

. If I was MIL I wouldnt want to buy anything from him again!!! He doesnt derserve her custom at all.

There are about 16 grounds for discrimination under the Human Rights Act. They include things like race, marital status etc.

I dont think so either but there is no reason why she cant spread so bad reviews.....you know the disastisfied customer tells 9 friends etc.

Well..... Ok, so it wasn't very fair, or very nice of him to do that, but he does have a right to refuse service...
I don't agree, however with "ruining his reputation"

hmmmm thats a hard one eh.can understand both of them being pissed of.he deff will hold a grudge which would be obvious.but he shoulda had the decency to have helped her in the first place and wouldnt have gone to court.......if I was her I wouldnt want to go back to him anyway...she needs to find another even better shoe shop

Well not so much ruin his reputation, but she's in her rights to mention what happened there to her family & friends, people can make up their own minds & think for themselves ...should have elaborated on what I meant...

Like you said fattartsrock he has a right to refuse service for whatever reason it may be, she can't really 'ruin his reputation' as I said by mentioning the situation to people, its up to the individual to make judgement and decide 'who is in the right/wrong' ...me and my late night typing
