Separation Anxiety

perhaps he has teeth moving around below the level of the gum sparkle, sort of like adult wisdom teeth do can move around for months before they show????

Hey Sparkle - it can really be devastating. My baby is the same age and I think that they are just beginning to get a real sense of when you are away from them. My baby will search the room with his eyes until he finds me (day or night). We too are struggling a bit with day sleeps.

It sounds like he is experiencing his separation anxiety around sleep. I would try bringing him into your bed at night when he starts crying and cuddling with him, that may be better than pacing the floor I would think. Maybe he just needs to know that you are still there - I do think when they can't see us they don't necessarily know that we are still there. During the day you could try rocking or singing to him in his go go bag to get him a little sleepy before he goes down and then maybe patting him until he is alseep or even feed to sleep if you need to.

Don't be scared of helping him get to sleep - I sometimes think we are encouraged to foster sleep independence too soon in our babies.

Tom did this for about 6 weeks just after Xmas It was horrible, I was so sleep deprived and beside myself. He would sleep for about 30 min all day and then not go down.

It is better! Totally different now, he goes down for his day sleeps with minimal fuss and I just go with the flow, if he wakes after a short time and seems happy I dont mind getting him back up and putting him down later. We NEVER could do this before. He now sleeps through the night. (touchwod). and is a really happy chappy.

So what did I do? No bloody clue. About the time it changed I started adding formula feeds. I alternate boob and bottle. After a breif period I posted about when he was fussing onboobie he has decided that its cool to have boob OR bottle and feeds really well at both. I was worrying that he wasnt getting enough food and giving him a bottle meant I knew how much was going in.

I also went to 3 solids a day.

Now I have no idea whether it was a coincidence or these things helped? It could evenbe establishing a routineof sorts for the first time inhis life...who knows.

If it hadnt got better I was going to go to family centre so maybe that is somethingto try.

Chin up....It DOES come right. All the babies in my antenatal did the same thing!

Yeah, so does Bella, but for those initial few minutes before she falls asleep, its a God send!

My DD Hayley does that with her daddy. If he is looking after her (while i'm at work or sport) she will not go down in her cot..she has to sleep on the couch near him. I also have the problem of her being Mummy clingy and gets upset if I'm not around (heartbreaking for hubby and others).
