Topic: Car Accident Posted: 27 February 2008 at 11:59pm |
I was happily driving to Feilding tonight down Camerons Line (for those that know the area) and i'm in lead car in a line of traffic and the next thing I see in front of me is this cloud of dust and then a white vehicle airbourn rolling then it crashing to the ground and roll about 5 times before it came to a stop in the middle of the road.
As I saw it roll I rang 111 straight away and was the first to do so. I slowed down and kept my car a bit back incase it blew up. Ran to the sceen where I found a young guy trapped in the car not moving or making any sound. The girl from the car behind it was there trying to get the guy to talk and really just stay awake.
Finally the police and ambulance turned up but he was trapped so they had to wait for the fire brigade to turn up. They turn up and need the Palmy fire brigade as they have the equipment to take him out.
We were asked to move aside (which was fine) and the police got our statements. I moved my car so the Palmy fire people could get closer and then while giving my statement I sat down on the ground leaning against my car. I was left along and I decided to lay down as my legs and arms went numb. A fire person came over to see how I was then an army medic (who was behind me in the line of traffic) came over and said I was in shock. They took me inside (the accident was right outside a house) and I had a few drinks and felt much better, so I went back outside and saw that he was out of the ute. I had to sit outside and watch (some strange reason) the ute being tipped over and onto the tow truck.
I had to wait for victim support person to turn up as once the police found out I was at home with the boys alone they didn't want me to be at home alone, the victim support lady was great. I got my car into Feilding (a couple of band people came out and got me) and went to the last few minutes of band (I didn't play thou) and then my car was driven back to Palmy by my friend.
Now his wife (also a friend) is staying with me tonight.
I can't sleep, everytime I close my eyes all I can see is the car rolling and flying and the blood from his head, and I can't take a sleeping pill as I had a few stiff drinks at the band rooms.

oh becks it is a week for it isnt it...I was shaking when i kept avoiding being hit the other day by the cop chase...and now you!!!
I can understand the shock = you go into over drive with adrenaline and then BOOM reality strikes and shock sets in.....I hope you dont keep getting flashbacks tho....I saw a young girl get hit by a car months back and that kept flashing into my mind for days - damn photographic memory!!!!
BIG HUGS....and hope the kids / people from the car are ok

Hey Becks, hope you're doing ok now and that you got some sleep. If you need to talk make sure you keep in touch with the victim support lady, and also your friends... what a horrible thing for you to see.
Hugs.

I'm doing a little better this morning. I got the boys to daycare (so didn't want to drive thou) so now I can sleep as not much of that happened last night. Just as I posted it we had a power cut that lasted an hour and couldn't sleep through that. Then finally got to sleep at 2.30 only to wake up again with flashbacks. Got to sleep again and then woke up in a fright at 6.30 wondering where I was .
The victim supprot lady rang this morning to make sure I was ok and told me to get into contact with my dr if I need to. Then just now the lady that was in a car behind me rang to make sure I was ok as she heard my last name (not a very common one) and knew some relatives so I was easy to track down.
I want to go to sleep now but just can't so I think the sleeping pills will be out tonight.

Oh Becks you have had a bit of a hard time lately probably compounded because of DH not being there too. But so glad to hear that there are people looking out for you.
Big hugs and I hope you get a bit of a rest today.
