Kryssi is my latest walker. The other two girls were walking independently at 12 1/2 months; Kryssi is almost 14 mos and still not walking without holding onto furniture/hands. I know it's probably just because she's such a big girl (something like 80cm and 11kg?) so the co-ord is a bit tougher than on little babies...

anyway, how late did your baby start to walk?

14 months isnt late! At least u can know where she is a wee bit longer! Isla was 14 1/2 months,...but I know there are still a few of the Oct06 babies not walking yet,..coming up 18 mnths, so its just another one of those things that varies greatly!

The gremlins were 13 1/2 -14 months. Maya was 10 mths. They all do things in their own time.

Did the size of the babe make any difference in your opinion?

Well, jake was heaps bigger than Char was, she is only just a shade under 8kgs and jake was that at 5 months. I did wonder that, but there was not motivation (i.e big bro/sis) to make him move... char was keen as to be playign with him, so moved early. Does Hannah pick her up/carry her round or do you guys tend to carry her around more? maybe she prefers that? In all honesty, I prefered my late walker... lol!!

I prefer the late pulling-to-standings cause they don't fall so often... but I've never really had early walkers, 12mos is average I guess. Hannah's not allowed to carry Kryssi (she's only 20cm and 6kg bigger haha!), not much diff for Kryssi than it was for Briona except for her height.

I have heard that the more children you have, the later they *can* crawl and walk as their siblings love getting stuff for tem etc. But 14mo isn't bad, DH was 16 months when he started walking as he was quite content sitting and playing with his toys.

Size didn't make a difference in my house - josh was my early walker at 10months and he was the tallest and heaviest at that age. Brooke walked at 1. Rhyley took first steps at 1 but probably not properly walking till 13 - 13 1/2 months he is tall but not too heavy (80cm and 10kgs) I think its just when they are ready and confident at it.

Perhaps its cause she is the 3rd child and the older girls get things for her anyhow. Brooke would be forever carrying Rhyley or going to get things for it (kind of thinking before he did) so why would he want to walk earlier - it wasn't till I got hard on her not to carry him all the time that he decided he'd better get it himself

jack was a little bubba and he didn't walk until he was 18mths.....he would happily walk around things or hold your hand (from 15mths), but not keen to do it on his own.

charli is definately bigger and was walking properly at 13mths.

Gem walked at 15 months and she was a tiny wee thing (despite a huge start of nearly 4kg) but Cam walked at 1 year and he was on the 75th centile for height and weight. In our case I think it was personality....Gem, to this day, doesn't do something until she thinks she can already do it (iykwim) while Cam will keep trying and failing till he gets there. Gem was also a very efficient crawler while Cam commando crawled (much harder work!).

from a developmental point of view..anything from 9 months to 18 is considered fine...:) so she's got heaps of time.. 2nd and 3rd children either walk later as they get things handed to them or walk quickly so they can catch up:) I'm a second child and I was 11 months.. my brother first and he was 16/17 months.

edited to say weight ussally doesnt make any difference..

Ollie is 16 months and not showing any signs of walking. We have been booked in to see a child development specialist as he doesn't crawl either but we aren't too worried at this stage because DH was 18 months when he started walking and he didn't crawl either.
