anyone know about good tests to use. I have been using the first response test because they are cheap and also because they pick up levels from 25 where as clearblue picks up from 50.
With my last pregnancy I bought one of each. Did the clear blue first and it said negative then did the first response after that and it was positive but only very faintly and it took ages to come up! Either im not preg or maybe I need to get the discover one??
dont want to spend that kind of money if its going to be negative

I always use clearblue, but the positive tests have always been very faint. But in saying that, 7 days late... it should pick it up! Grrrr AF's are annoying arn't they!! You could always go to the DR for a test... I think preg tests are free, and maybe they have tests which pick it up earlier???

Why don't you get a blood test? Thats the most accurate test.
You don't need a doctors 'script' for it either. Just go the the medlat/pathlab or whoever your close to. It cost $20, but if you go now, you'll have a result by the end of the day.

When I was over a week late my line was very very very faint - you almost couldn't see it. Also when my sister got pregnant as a teenager and I took her to the md she asked her to tell her that the test was wrong to which the md responded that "false negatives are common but false positives are not".
So basically what I'm saying is that the tests aren't infallible.
I would go to the md and get a blood test done. If it's positive it's a free appointment.
edit: just read posts above and see that it's no always free

I thought about going to the FPA because that is free but they cant help me until Thursday next week
Thats a bit slack I thought. It would take not even 10 mins of their time
Oh well I cant get back into town until Monday so I will try and get straight into the Medlab for a bloodtest first thing monday morning. Do they pick up pregnancy before a HPT?? Anyway I will know for sure then. I thought I had to see my doctor to get the blood wrok done because he kept telling me to wait lol

Yes. Bloodtests measure the amount of HCG and are more sensitive than HPTs (most measure HCG levels of 25 +)
Here's an extract from storknet.com
There are two types of blood tests you can get from a health care provider.
1) A quantitative blood test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of hCG in the blood. This means it can pick up very small amounts of hCG, making it a very accurate test.
2) A qualitative hCG blood test gives a simple yes or no answer to whether you are pregnant. This test is more like a urine test in terms of its accuracy.
Blood tests can pick up hCG earlier in a pregnancy than urine tests can. Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant about 6 to 8 days after you ovulate (or release an egg from an ovary). Urine tests can determine pregnancy about 2 weeks after ovulation. Some more sensitive urine tests can tell if you are pregnant as early as 6 days after you conceive, or one day after you miss a menstrual period.
Good luck!!

Anything above 5 is considered pregnant so yes a blood test can pick it up before a HPT. This might be cheeky but why don't you just tell the doc that you got a pos test at home and then he will do a blood test.

I got my pregnancy tests from www.saveontests.com I ordered them on Saturday, and they were sitting in my letterbox this morning! It cost $11 for 10 tests and postage and they are the same ones the doctors use!! (when I was preg I got a positive with it at 12dpo - not sure if I would have got one earlier coz that was the first time I tested)

oh gutted! Naughty DH! Have you tried looking for tests on Trade Me? I haven't so I have no idea if there are cheap ones or not, but if there are then you can pay by bank deposit :)
I have to ask a question somewhere about periods after miscarriages... I'll go see if there's a relevant section somewhere! Ooh maybe the "Waiting for ovulation" board will do the trick :)

You can pick up a prezzy card, which is a pre-paid card that you can use for internet purchases, from the post shop or get a debit card from most banks (same sort of thing, you can only spend the money you have and can use it in places where you'd normally use a credit card).

Oh yeah get a prezzie card! I actually won a $100 one on Weds at a NZ Post conference I went to! First person to yell out their post code got it and that was ME! But I think you load them with any amount from $25 so that is all you will need to buy pregnancy tests! You can buy ovulation tests too but I haven't used them before. I just go by CM as to when I ovulate, seems to work!
