Hi just wondering if anyone can put my mind at rest???Brooke has had a chest infection for two wks now and is on her second lot of antibiotics. She is still very crackly in the chest and coughs so much she sometimes starts dry retching and brings up some of her feed. She is not drinking very well either....she is on a 4hrly routine and will drink a max of 140ml.more often only 80-100ml.So the total for the day is not a hell of alot...but I cant force her to drink more can I.Apart from the horrible coughing she is quite happy.Im such a worry wort I get up numerous times during night to check on her and make sure she still breathing....I really hope she will get back into a better drinking habit....Is it normal for babies to not want to drink as much when sick???????

Yep thats normal, as long as they are still having wet nappies and it doesnt go on to long then the doctor wouldnt worry to much. I had this same sort of thing with Kobe when he was a baby and we were in the hospital every month during winter with broncialitis which is what they call it when they are under 2. His cough never really seemed to go away but finally this summer he has improved so much and is two on sunday so it will be interesting to see how he goes this winter. They say to measure how many breathes, I think its something like at least 10 breaths in 15 seconds but dont quote me on that because im not sure. I was always told to watch the nappies and measure breathing. Hope bubs gets better soon.

forgot to mention as much as i hate to but once they start getting these sort of problems they seem prone to them so you will want to be careful in the future if possible.

I rang the plunket healthline and spoke to registered nurse and she said as long as she is having a few wet nappies every day and is wet in the mouth and eyes are not sunken in then she is hydrated enough....still a worry though...I tried ringing the local plunket lady to see if we can get her weighed but havent heard back...my little boy has a head cold now and so do I.Yay.....Really hoped I would be able to keep Brooke away from antibiotics but not worth risking her getting real bad and ending up in hospital....Hey Aimee sorryI havent been in touch...have stayed away cause really dont want you guys getting this....hope you had a great birthday.Ill give you your pressie when I catch up with you next.have you had any payments from my slack sister?
