got to my antenatal class last night and the person taking it said to me, oh i see your baby has dropped, not long to go now. So i asked how long from when baby dropped to it was born, and she said normally anywhere from 2 - 4wks, and that the first baby normally drops from 36wks, at which point i told her i was only 34 wks according to the scan, but by my dates i should be about 36/37 wks, and she told me to ignore the scan dates as they tend to be less accurate the later in pregnancy you get.

so now im confused i have no idea when i am due, or what dates i should be going by, oh well i will just have to ask my midwife tomorrow how far along she thinks i am.

The scan is hard to go by cos babies all grow differently and when I had my scan a few weeks ago she was measuring a week behind but the lady said that they give it a couple of weeks either side and to go by the date of my last period because that is more accurate. Kobe was 7lb 2oz 6 weeks early so the scan I had then would have put him at term.

Oh dear Kazzle, I wouldn't worry too much. My son Alex dropped right into my pelvis when I was 32 weeks & everyone was like "oh wow, you've dropped! Are you sure you have your dates right???". Sure gave me a fright! But then he pulled himself right out again and continued to go down & up right up until I was induced 8 days past my due date. Unless you are really unsure of your dates to start with, then I wouldn't worry. Definitely talk to your midwife though. She is the professional & can explain better why Bubs has moved.

i think Ayja stayed low the whole pregnancy. i would tend to go by your dates - simply because towards the end of pregnancy baby goes througha period of rapid growth so that is where genetics could take over and baby may be bigger or smaller than the "average/normal" and they might change your dates according to this, either way - it's only 2 weeks out so just get your bag ready in case, but don't sit around waiting for it. as everyone knows, babies come when they are good and ready regardless of what the scans or due dates say!! I knew all along that Ayja was due int he end of May - but my sacn ended up having my due date as somewhere between the 2nd of June and the 8th, each scan it got pushed back! well, what happened? Ayja was born 25th May, just like i thought. go with what you think i spose.

yeah well, my midwife told me not to worry about when baby is born, she said i should actually prepare myself for the fact that as its my first i will be overdue so when ppl ask me when im due i should say early May.

oh boy i dont think i could wait another 7-8 wks, lol

now that bubs has dropped i definitely feel heavy and pregnant now, and she also told me that i was going to have a good healthy baby around 7-8lbs, so much for hoping to only have a 6lber lol

oh well the waiting goes on. she will come when she is ready.

my scans were Very accurate as I was due on 31.10.05 (scan date) and gave birth on that date. But I remember one of the midwife asked me (after I gave birth) " how over due were you dear?"...I was like "I wasnt I gave birth on my due date"...she said really?? cause your baby looks like it was over due...and I have been doing this for 30 years.....so who knows???

You will know when the baby arrives huh.....

The damn dates are confusing. I didn't have LMP dates to work with (actually I did, but they were really out of date by when I actually fell pregnant so tended to ignore them - after paternity results anyway) and scan dates also didn't really match up with date of conception.

Anyway, was told to talk early scan dates as in the early stages it is easier to date based on development. Later it gets harder as babes are all different sizes
