Topic: Boy or Girl Posted: 25 March 2008 at 4:44pm |
Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and we have just started trying to get pregnant. Married 2 weeks and 29 years old.
Just wondering if anyone has heard the stories about how you can change your diet and effect the sex of the child pre-conception. Sounds like a myth but my grandmother swears on it.
Anyone had experience with this?
Thanks,
dana

Hi all the best with your TTC journey. If you do a search on here or on Google on 'Shettles' method, you'll find a thread about trying for a specific gender.

The Shettles method is a lot about timing, I think.
I did hear that increasing calcium and magnesium can help get a girl, but that was more word of mouth, and may be an old wives tale.

There was a thread on the Shettles method in the First Baby board a while back, if you search you should be able to find it.
I think for it to work you have to strictly follow the diet, clothing, timing instructions to the letter.

I also heard potassium and calcium for a girl and magnesiam and something else for a boy????
All sounded a bit tricky!
Interesting theory though.

WELCOME! Yeah I agree with the other girls and have heard heaps about timing umm the older the egg sis a girl and the fresher the egg is the boy, or was it the other way around oh I dont know lol. I think it builds u up to expect it when theres a chance it may not work With me I told myself right in the beggining its a girl I bought all pink and told everybody I AM HAVING A GIRL hey presto it came out a girl lol in a family full of boys! Although I did get worried when she came out because DH said "its a boy!" The midwife said no dear, thats and umbilical cord! SOme humour for the day lol

From what I've read about Shettles method (we'll be going by it to try and get a girl next time) its all about timing. BD from the end of AF to a few days before ov (prob best to take temps to know) for a girl, and BD on or after ov time to get a boy. Basically boy sperm is faster but dies quicker, girl sperm is slower but lasts longer. So if you want a girl, BD before ov as the sperm has to travel further and wait for the egg so there's less chance of boy spermies still being around (lol typical men are so impatient )

I'm not really sure you can do anything to get what you want. My cousin did everything she could to have a girl after 2 boys and ended up having twin boys
