Topic: What next? Posted: 01 April 2008 at 7:24am |
DP and I have decided that if this month nothing comes of TTC we'll head off and seek some help. I figure we start with the Doc's but could someone tell me if that is the best place to start or would a fertility specilist be better. We've been trying since April last year, charting 3 months, DP is 36 and I'm 32.
Also, if it is the doctor, do you just ring and make an appointment? Silly question I know, but I don't have a doc.
Thanks

I'd go to your Dr (yes, just make an appointment), tell him of your intention to seek fertility help, request a referral and then self-refer to Fertility Associates or Fertility Plus and pay for your first appointment to jump the queue a bit (tell them that the referral is coming from your Dr). The waiting time for referrals through the public system can be lengthy.
It would be a good idea to seek help - for 30+ women they recommend seeking help after 6 months TTC.
All the best!

You will have to find a Dr that is currently taking patients, so start ringing around now, it may be harder than u think! You can go as a casual patient, but it usually costs more.
Good luck!

If you are wanting to go private just get your doctor to write you a referal to a clinic of your choice.
We chose to go to IVF Auckland as I would rather pay then have to wait.
You can just phone them and ask for an appointment. We didn't even get a doctors referal in the end.

I think it depends on whether you want to go private or public. If you're prepared to pay for private (approx $180 for initial consultation, but takes about an hour), then you can just make an appt with the clinic of your choice. If you want to avoid paying, then you'll need a dr's referral.
Good luck
