Buffet’s

Hi all,

Quick question…I know buffets are out of the question for us preggie women, I’m presuming that would apply to a wedding buffet also?   They are still sitting around right even though they are not necessarily around all day?

Silly question I know…but my SIL is getting married in July and it just occurred to me we probably need to get her to arrange a special meal.

yeah i was kind of thinking that might be the safest option....

I think if it gives you piece of mind you should ask for something special to be made for you.

On the other hand. Wedding Buffets will be fresh and only served to yourselves when you arrive, you just need to be carefull about what you pick. I went to a wedding in December (3 months at the time) and I just ate Cooked Ham, scolloped potatoes and a bun. Not too much I could eat but it was still scummy....

Oh and I ate lots of dessert!! haha

I went to Fortuna when I was about 4 mths preg with Maya. I didn't really know about listeria etc. but I was still pretty careful what I chose. Some buffet foods are ok - ones that are well cooked and hot like chips, freshly carved meats (where they have the guy carving and serving at the same time) as long as the meat is cooked right thru, and the plain cooked veges. And bread and butter of course.

(Yay 14 weeks today - the second trimester begins!!!!)

I went to a wedding about a month ago and while I ate the buffet, I was just choosy about what I had. The lamb or beef whatever it was wasn't cooked right through and quite pink so obviously avoided that. Just had potatoes and veges and a couple of salads that I could eat. I think you should be fine just be a bit careful. Oh and as Wendz said, lots of dessert

I would have said yes, but yesterday I was re-reading the Food Safety book that my m/w gave me and it has a pic of one of those Salad Express salads that you get from the supermarket in those plastic tubs, and they have no dressing on. So now I'm not sure. Same as Subway. I always thought that was safe as they put the dressing on when they make the sandwich fresh, but now I'm not so sure?

To be honest. I hate all these silly rules.

 I mean look at how women hundreds of years ago had healthy babies.

I still believe you have to be careful with what you eat like well cooked meats, no raw seafood, etc but I think its just taken way out of  proportion.

Ive been to smorgasbord restaurants and eaten the salads,and hot food, etc but kept away from meats that were rare, etc.

 Im naughty.

My mum and sister ate normal throughout their pregnancies and everything is normal with their children.

Good on you though for being so strong and eating healthy for your bubby.

 

agrrrhhhh it drove me nuts what i could and could not eat and it was everything i craved buts its better to be safe then sorryoh anddont forget tohave a great day

Im so with you kellverona! i think all these rules are pathetically overboard.
With Maddisyn I was only 16 when I was pregnant with her and didnt tell anyone and got away with it as I didn't show.
So I had NO idea what I could/couldn't eat so naturally (being 16) I just ate whatever the heck I wanted! And Maddi is FINE.
When my parents did find out they were at first, "okay you can't eat this you can't eat that....." but when we went to the doc to see how far along I was.. I was 7 months!!
So they didn't worry too much after that. haha
