Topic: Chch ladies help pls !! Posted: 17 April 2008 at 7:49am |
We are going on holiday down to Hamner Springs and Chch. How far is it from Chch to Hamner and any recommendations for accommodation in Chch city centre and at Hamner please, say around $100 per night?
Also any other activies worth a visit/doing while we are down there?
Thanks for your help!

Takes about an hour and twenty minutes to drive there, not sure exactly the distance.
Not sure about accomodation but there are lots of things to do both in CHCH and hanmer. Depends on the ages your trying to entertain and money you have to spend. Hanmer is beautiful.

Hey Peachy! When are you coming down?! Would like to meet up if you have time?
Chch to Hamner = 1 1.5 hours, not that far, and the road is pretty good, bit windy in places. DH goes up there alot for work, and have been with him a few times before we had the girls.
Places to stay.. not sure, do a search on google, that would be your best bet

depending on what sort of thing your looking for there is a place called green acres in hanmer, im pretty sure thats the name and they have cabin style accommodation, nice clean tidy ones but im not sure how much it was, pretty reasonable though.
in chch there heaps and heaps of places to stay, i would look up wotif.com and pick on from there.
in hanmer there are the pools and the maze to do, plus if you feel energetic there is the walk up conical (sp?) hill and they have market on the weekend.
chch there is heaps to do but like someone said depends on what sort of thing you want to do, a child friendly, child free, aimed at children.....

Thnaks for your replies! We will be taking Lauren so she will be around 7 months old when we go, so probably things more to entertain me and DH, but she will be with us, so have to keep that in mind too!
Lisha we are coming down on the 4th June!

Hey Peachy,
Yah Hanmer is so cool.
How long are you staying in Hanmer? As it might work out better for you to hire a holiday home. I think the site is www.hanmerholidayhomes.co.nz there is some great bargains there and really nice homes.
Hanmer there is heaps of nice walks, the hot pools obviously, mini golf, cool wee cafes, jet boating, massages umm cant think what else there is at the moment. Its basically just a lovely place to unwind.
Christchurch are you wanting to stay righ in the heart of the City? I totally recommend the Holiday Inn City Centre, but Im not sure how much it is because we have a card that gets us there quite cheap.
You could go on the tram which would be quite cool with Lauren, go to Willowbank (wildlife reserve with monkeys, kiwis etc), there is another zoo too which is Orana Park. The gondola if your into that, Qe2 pool is really cool now for kids, if you have a car I would totally say to go over to Akaroa for a day trip, its just over an hour from Christchurch and its a beautiful romantic wee town. The Antartic Centre is quite cool for kids too, but I dont know maybe Lauren might be a wee bit young.
Punting on the avon might be something nice for you and your DH to do. Visit the art Centre if you are here on a weekend - there is markets there in the weekend and also normally people busking, sometimes doing a show type thing quite funny.
Clearwater is a nice place to go have lunch and thats where the PGA golf tournament was. I think its quite pricey but Im sure they would have a website.
Southern Encounter Aquarium which could be quite cool for Lauren too.
Might pay to have a look into what you want to do before you go to one of the places, because a lot of the attractions you can get a pass for because they are all linked together. Like they do a deal for going on the Gondola and the tram etc.
Ummm thats all I can think of at the moment!
How long are you here for? And do you want to stay right in the City?

A lot of places on Riccarton Road have cheap accommodation as they have to be so competitive so you could check there. Quite central as well.

I also agree on hiring a holiday home. they work out far cheaper than a motel up there and you get a whole house to yourselves, great with a wee one. Only thing is you usually have to do the cleaning before you leave, depends whether you want to or not being on holiday and all. I think you can pay a bit more and they get cleaners in. Check out the website mentioned above and then you can have a look at the places and call the office they are really good and will help you find what you are after.
